Momentum Lesson 1: The Impulse-Momentum Change Theorem Momentum is mass in motion. The word momentum is used a lot in sports. Every object has mass. Every object moving is in momentum.

Momentum = Mass X Velocity

P=M*V Mass units times velocity units would be the units for momentum. Kg*m/s is the standard metric unit of momentum. Momentum is a vector quantity. A quantity which is fully described by both magnitude and direction is a vector quantity.

An object has a large momentum if either its mass or its velocity is large. Objects at rest do not have momentum

There is no mass in motion. It is not moving, therefore momentum cannot be present Momentum is mass in motion, period.
