The HBA1C Test or Glycated Hemoglobin Test

Indicated for checking blood sugar control in people who might be pre-diabetic.

HBA1C Level 5 6

Average Blood Sugar Level 90 120

Indication Normal A1C level Normal A1c Level

Fasting Blood Glucose

A blood glucose test measures the amount of a type of sugar, called glucose, in your blood. Glucose comes from carbohydrate foods. It is the main source of energy used by the body.

Glucose Level
From 70 to 99 mg/dL (3.9 to 5.5 mmol/L) From 100 to 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L)

Indication Normal Fasting Glucose Impaired Fasting Glucose

Initial Glucose challenge Test

An initial glucose tolerance test is a medical test in which glucose is given and blood samples taken afterward to determine how quickly it is cleared from the blood.[1] The test is usually used to test for diabetes, insulin resistance, and sometimes reactive hypoglycemia and acromegaly, or rarer disorders of carbohydrate metabolism.

A sample is drawn 1 hour in a 50grams glucose drink

Glucose Level
Less than 140* mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L)

Indication
Normal screen

When higher than 140 needs further testing (OGTT)

Oral Glucose Tolerance Test An oral glucose tolerance test is a further testing of Gestational Diabetes which is slightly different than glucose challenge test. But it uses higher dose of glucose solution Sample is drawn in a 100gram glucose drink Time of Sample Collection
Fasting* (prior to glucose load) 1 hour after glucose load 2 hours after glucose load 3 hours after glucose load*

Target Level
95 mg/dL (5.3 mmol/L) 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L) 155 mg/dL (8.6 mmol/L) 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L

When target level is exceeded upon time of collection patient is positive for gestational diabetes
