Katie Armstrong English 9 August 23, 2010 Similar Stories I think the story Haroun & the Sea

of Stories by Salman Rushdie is a lot like the story The Wizard of Oz. In both stories the protagonist ends up in a world, which they dont recognize. However in Haroun & the Sea of Stories Haroun has a goal of turning his fathers supply of story water back on and saving the Sea of Stories when Dorthys only goal is to get to Oz so she can return home. Both characters make friends along the way that help them out. In Haroun and the Sea of Stories Harouns friends include, Mr. Buttoo, a bus driver who later becomes a Hoopoe once Haroun is in the Land of the Gups and Chups, Iff the Water Genie, Blabbermouth a page of Prince Bolo, who Haroun falls in love with, and Harouns own father also joins him in the Land of Gups and Chups. In the Wizard of Oz Dorthy meets many others who are traveling to oz. Such as, the Lion, who is in search of courage, the tin man, who seeks a heart, and the scarecrow who longs for a brain. I think that the journey that Haroun makes to the Land of the Chupwalas is similar to the journey that Dorthy makes to the Oz to see the wizard. I think the stories are similar and different at the same time, because it may seem that they are the same there are many things that make them different.
