Discuss camp theme: Worms You will need: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Poster board with labeled pictures of red worms and meal worms Life cycle of a red worm and meal worm kits Worm activity packets 1 container of red worms Magnifying glasses Paper plates Paper towels Spray bottle with water

Objective: Campers will learn about the life cycle of the red worm and meal worm. Campers will also identify why worms are important to the environment and what animals in the zoo eat worms. Lecture: Begin with having 2 counselors hold up the poster board. Discuss each picture and explain why worms are important. (Use fact sheet.) Activity: Talk about the life cycle of a meal worm and red worm using the life cycle kits as visual aides. Ask students if they know what metamorphosis means. What is Metamorphosis? Metamorphosis means change or transition. . Fact: Meal worms have a complete metamorphosis. (Point out the all four stages.) Fact: Red worms do not go through stages of metamorphosis but do have a life cycle change. Distribute 1 paper plate, 1 magnifying glass and 1 folded paper towel placed in the center of each plate to each camper. Lightly moisten the paper towel with a few sprays of water. (This will help the worms stay moist.) Then pass out 1 to 2 red worms per camper placing the worms on the paper towel. Campers will then begin their observations Q. What is a worm? A. Worms are not insects because they do not have legs. Worms are called annelids

Zoo Tour Take campers to view the Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Curassow and Aviary exhibits. Discuss habitats
