From: John Clark Attention: Col. Musharraf Regarding: World Environment Day 5th June 2011-06-05 Dear Col.

05 06 - 2011

Thank You for attending the workshop display celebrating World Environment Day. The Models displayed were: 1. LED Torch uses less power 2. LED Wind Up Torch charge up by hand power 3. Insulated flask and mug keeps things hot or cold without reheating/recooling. 4. Prize Certificates 1st, 2nd, 3rd for Transport, highlighting that using a smaller vehicle where possible is good, using a smaller bicycle is good, and using feet is best. 5. Water heating by using evacuated tube method the glass inner tube is black to absorb heat, while the clear outer glass does not get hot, and the vacuum between them is the insulation. The hot air engine on top is simply to illustrate the energy of the hot water and continued to run for more than hour after the tubes were in the shade. 6. Solar cooking : a) Fold up cardboard covered with cooking foil very practical and inexpensive. b) Sunshade from a car folded into shape for solar cooking effective and the cost is only AED 5. c) Parabola cooker from cardboard and cooking foil concentrated heat not readily required in our summer when enough sun is present to use the other two methods. 7. Solar powered road light trailor. This is to show a practical use of LED lights and a solar charger and a wind turbine has been fitted as well to create a hybrid unit. Sunshine will activate charging from the solar panel and wind power will activate charging from the windmill, thereby reducing the risk of flat batteries. Such a unit can typically run all night on a set of charged batteries. 8. Bicycle and shoes self explanatory, greener ways to get around. The theme is to burn less fossil fuels, especially wood, in order to save our forests. The aim of making the men aware of the above, and to encourage them to save our forests, seems to be met.
