Since MALDEFs founding, the civil rights organization has awarded scholarships to students
who further MALDEFs mission of advancing the civil rights of the Latino community in the
United States. This year, MALDEF will be awarding scholarships to students, graduate or
undergraduate, who have demonstrated their commitment to Latino civil rights through active
involvement in advocating for the DREAM Act.
MALDEF will offer scholarships of $5,000 each to selected DREAM Act student activists. The
DREAM Act Student Activist Scholarship is open to students who will be enrolled at an
American-accredited college or university in 2011-2012. Applicants are evaluated for their
academic achievements, for their background and financial need, and, most importantly, for their
demonstrated commitment to advancing the DREAM Act and the civil rights of DREAM Act
students. Applicants must obtain an application form from any of several DREAM Act
advocacy organizations.
