FOXSI detector operation test status report

Aug 25, 2011 Shin-nosuke Ishikawa

Goal: check the detector performance and enable to start the detector calibration Current Status: - FPGA programming and GSE are ready for the operation test (thanks to Lindsay and Steven) - The detector board and test board (Actel+power supply) are also ready for the test - I started operating the detector

Status on the experiment

- Leakage current (all strips+guard ring): reasonable 20 nA at 200 V, roomtemp <10 nA at 200 V, -20 C - ASIC slow control registers look successfully send (trigger enable/disable works correctly for each channel) - Trigger function seems to work correctly (trigger rate increases with the Am source) - However, the spectrum is not obtained with the default parameter values (by Saito-san, used in ISAS?). Signals of the triggered channel becomes 0 or below the pedestal. - I tried changing parameters. A possible spectrum is obtained with CM_thr_dis 0, Iramp_fb 1 and Slew_on_b 0

Spectrum?
Raw data Common mode noise subtracted Pedestal (median value) Am spectrum?

packet errors (maybe..) - I m still not sure whether this is really an Am spectrum or not (it could be a simple gaussian noise, not an Am spectrum). - Signals at around pedestal+256 are seen in every channel (even if that channel is disabled). Maybe those are packet errors of one bit of ADC.

Problems
- High noise (trigger part) Many noises are triggered if I don t set the highest threshold (v_th 31). Bad ground condition? Lowering the threshold is signicant for FOXSI. - High noise and low gain (spectrum) Some parameters, timing or something are wrong? - Packet errors Many bad read error happen even if the sync word is correct. Maybe the bad read error increases with a low count rate (i.e. only one ch is enabled and the distance from the source is far). Sometimes the errors are more than 90%, limit the experiment. Only 30% of triggered events have the correct mask.
