SR. SERVANTS REPORT

BY ELIDTH
Greetings unto my fellow Brothers and Sisters of the Mountain Confederation. The reigns of Senior Servant were turned over to me at the fire. I would like to take a minute to thank Gozan for her magnificent job during the last 5 years. She weathered many a storm during her tenure and managed it well. I can only hope to walk in the footsteps of those who traveled this path before me, learning from their wisdom and performing what has been honorably asked of me for the good of the household. I am not as eloquent as my predecessors therefore do not expect long winded or flowery comments from me. It was noted that during rainstorms in the middle of the night peace of mind was provided to Thanks Jeff for your vigilance in looking after us all during our slumber. Romper room was in full swing and thanks to those parents who gave the time to monitor, protect and teach our cubs. It was a comfortable and spacious camp and I believe a War that was enjoyed by all. WARLORD REPORT
BY ANGUS
Well now isn't this a wonderful year we've had?? Paying jobs outside of Pennsic (We already have an offer in the making for next year's Barony Wars). The Battle of Endless Wine, a difference and in some cases, actually won the battle due to our actions. All in all I'd say we've come a long, long way.. BUT before we start breaking our arms congratulating ourselves, there is still work to be done. This is always and will be true for us. Whether it's growing our numbers on the field, growing our prowess (Which should never stop really), there is always room for improvement.... Now a recap on our performance at Pennsic: Heavy Fighters Valley Battle-- Nothing bad to say on this one, we went in and hammered them with the charge through. Bridge Battles-- Again, we did exactly what we were instructed to do. In the first, we kept brand new rapier unit, and finally, a heavy unit this year that kicked some serious ass, made a

everything we had. If there was one weakness, it was a couple minor delays in actually getting

our unit together and were an active support for the bridges which looked to be in danger of being broken. When that didn't happen and our bridge had the blowout, we were there... Well you guys were there; I ended staying back to keep the banner per the win conditions for the scenario. Field Battles.... Here we did well. We did however end up as two units at times. While this did not really affect what happened, we should keep in mind we are more effective the larger a him and we kept going. The other unit (Jeff's little crew) were in the thick of things and as such unable to join up. That pretty much wraps up our heavy...Now as to what I saw in the Rapier. Town Battle-- Man did we ever clean up there 1 minute52 seconds and it's over.. And YES we were responsible for that happening. unit we are. Kudos to Fiesel for calling the reform. Those of us who could hear him rallied on

Field Battles-- We did just fine, we stayed together and kept them running ahead of us. The second battle of course was a real pain in the ass with the Mid making that building. What happened to us was a lack of upper management but once things got rolling (thanks to Ansteorra going outside the building) we were able to go to work. Our lack was in our prowess While we were able to work well as a unit, our individual skills still need LOTS of work. As we increase our skills, so increases our abilities as a unit. Woods Battle --Again our major lack was in our prowess. As a unit folks in the woods really, really became worried about the new kids on the block (OR to see it thru their eyes an 800 pd gorilla). When they started calling in everything but an airstrike, you know they was scared.. All in all it was a good year for Confed on the field. We earned our pay and got some respect from others who were not so keen on us prior. And of course, much thanks to Helen and crew for keeping us alive. While we were doing

serious props from their Majesties (who really want us next year), and we gained a new-found

double duty on the field (Heavy and Rapier), you guys were pulling double duty as well. Couldn't have done it without ya... ~Angus

NO SHIT, THERE I WAS.

Tales of Battles gone by, from the Retired Fighters Club

A TALE OF GULF WARS BY BRYCHEN SILVERFIST

There were four or five of Confed at Gulf War, I do not recall the year and recall only four names: myself, Dietrich, Dermot, and Therion. It was the second Field Battle, we were fighting with Ansteorra, Therion, Dietrich, and myself with the Light Cavalry, Dermot with the Heavy Calvary. The Heavy Calvary was to lead the charge, downhill, into & through the enemy left flank. The Light Cavalry was to exploit the resulting breach, turn left and roll up their line. Best laid plans, eh? As we charged down the hill, I could see enemy units redeploying behind their left flank, when the Heavy Cavalry hit them, they were stopped dead. We were standing there, waiting for them to punch though. Fighting was fierce, but we were not engaged yet. I looked to my left and noticed the unit that had stood there had moved left to reinforce the flank under attack. There were two - count them, two - spearmen standing in a ten foot gap. I think I yelled to charge to our left, don't recall, but I spanned the 10 yards to the first spear, deflected his point on my shield, killed him and went right. I did note Dietrich had followed me; he took care of the second spearman. Running behind their line, we engaged several enemy fighters, killed about six or seven each. The only one I recall was a Trimarien Knight, and him only because he came to our camp for a beer later that night. Not long, mere moments really, after killing the Knight we heard the cry, "enemy to our rear" shouted and echoed by a large number of voices, the sky soon grew dark with pole arms and Dietrich and I were fairly please) turned enough troops to face the "threat" the Heavy Cav broke their line, and we laid there as Ansteorra eliminated their left flank and rolled up the line. No one saw Dietrich and I go, we may well have weakened their line, just the two of us. We died unheralded but happy. effectively slain. However, it appears our little raid into their rear (no smartass comments

FIELD SUPPORT REPORT

BY ELIDTH
What can I say....WOW did we had a field support team to beat all!!! There were so many throughout all the battles for me to list. I think it was just amazing the numbers we had. It was a magnificent site to see the many Confed fighters and Field Support marching to the pipes up to the field battle; people watching as we passed all that Blue and Gold, what a proud moment. We also had a magnificent Blue and Gold shade pavilion on the field due to our negotiations this year. What a beauty. On Monday at the first Heavy battle it seemed like no one else was providing water to any fighter on our side of the fields. We went through roughly 32 gal of water/Gatorade for the troops. None of our own dropped from the heat thanks to the incredible efforts of the many support persons available. We did have a few others drop in unexpected that needed some assistance to cool down, but they rose again to fight another day. This year we fielded a Fencing team of 12 for the first time. It was glorious to watch them in action and see opponents backing away as they saw the "Cat" moving toward them. The were there to support and assist. We had duct taped knees, Shoeless Joe who had to feign death to get his footwear back, rivets popped on a breast plate that did not slow the fighter down, he merely stole his sisters and hit the field again (wondering why it was a tad roomier in the front) as well as several other minor problems to overcome...But no major injuries, no hospital runs. Our Household and the Fighters give thanks to the support team often. Our fighters Field Support team is grateful. It was yet another Great War and I look forward to next year. In Service , HnH ~Eilidth the Adopted required a need for extra water and field support. Once again our Brothers and Sisters

FROM THE NEW SLUMLORD

BY YANDROS
Brothers and Sisters, I'd like to start by saying thank you for this opportunity to serve the house, and thank you for your future cooperation in helping me to help you have a nice, happy camp at Pennsic in the year (or years) to come. I most likely will not be changing anything from that way it was done in the last few years. If it ain't broke don't fix it, right? It seemed everyone has been pretty happy the last couple of years, which says something of our exiting slumlord. If anyone has any specific ideas to help the camp lay out, or something specific they'd like to discuss feel free to contact me at any time [yandros81@yahoo.com]. Obviously as the date gets closer Ill be giving you updates on our progress, and Id like, when I request for information, to get it in a timely manner. Thank you again, Yandros (Jeff, Picked a new name BTW)

FROM THE ORDER OF THE CENTAUR

BY GOZEN
We riders of the horse have been active throughout the riding season. For those who don't know it....our own Lady Rhiannon filia Catell is once again the AEthelmearc Kings Equestrian Champion having won the field at Tournaments Through the Ages on June 18, 2011. The famous warmare, Desiree, despite her age, continues to dominate the field. Shoshida Tora Gozen is the AS XLV Inter-Kingdom Equestrian Competition (IKEqC - similar to Inter-Kingdom Archery Comp.) Champion, winning both the Advanced and Intermediate 21' divisions and overall competition. Eachmarcach an Fhasaugh (Marta) was last years AEthelmearc Kings Champion and Rhia was last year's IKEqC Champion. All three of us continue to marshal events throughout AEthelmearc and the MidRealm (We are warranted in both Kingdoms, through the approval of both crowns, effective last fall). Saxon Summer event Sept 17th; and Rhia is running equestrian activities at the MidRealm's Afternoon of Fun event in October. I am currently the AEthelmearc Kingdom Equestrian Officer and Rhia is the Deputy KEO. I taught three equestrian related classes at Pennsic War which were well attended and also hosted a Known World Equestrian gather at AEthelmearc Royal on Thursady of War Week at Pennsic. So as you can see, the riders of the Katzenlance have worked hard to promote the equestrian arts in the Known World and continue to proudly ride our steeds to victory, in Honor. Gozen, Co-Principle of the Centaurs Marta ran the King's Championship; I'll be running equestrian activities at the MidRealm's

CORMAC'S PRIVATEERS
ACCORDING TO TYRVAR, AFTER A SONG BY STAN ROGERS Oh, the year was AS 26 (?), HOW I WISH I WAS IN NITHGARD NOW! A letter of marque come from prince Lukan, To the scummiest vessel that ever swam, Chorus:

And damn them all! I was told we'd cruise the seas for Midrealm gold We'd fire no guns--shed no tears Now I'm a broken man on a Pennsic pier The last of Cormac's Privateers.

Oh, Captain Cormac cried the town, HOW I WISH I WAS . . . would make for him the Raging Queen's crew (chorus) The Raging Queen was a sickening sight, HOW I WISH ... She'd a list to the port and and her sails in rags (chorus) On Grond's birthday we put to sea, HOW I WISH... We were 91 days to Cooper's Bay Pumping like madmen all the way (chorus) On the 96th day we sailed again, HOW I WISH ... When a bloody great Midrealmer hove in sight (chorus) The Midrealmer lay low down with gold, HOW I WISH... She was broad and fat and loose in the stays (chorus) Then at length we stood two cables away, HOW I WISH... But to catch her took the Raging Queen two whole days With our cracked four pounders we made to fight Gilber in scuppers with the staggers and the jags For twenty brave men all fishermen who

Our cracked four pounders made an awful din But with one fat ball they stove us in (chorus) The Raging Queen shook and pitched on her side, HOW I WISH... Cormac was smashed like a bowl of eggs And the Maintruck carried off both me legs (chorus) So here I lay in my 23rd year, HOW I WISH... It's been 6 years since we sailed away And I just made Pennsic yesterday (chorus)

YOU ARE HERE! A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE SOCIETY FOR CREATIVE ANACHRONISMS
Nerds create the greatest things!
How much do you know about the geography of the SCA? Do you know the great power and far reaches of the Mountain Confederation? Our great band of mercenaries has conquered lands far and wide!

In 1966, a bunch of history/sci-fi/fantasy nerds in Berkeley, California threw a medieval tournament for the fun of it. Everyone enjoyed the first tournament so much that they agreed a second should be run, but in a larger setting. In order to reserve one of the public parks application. Since recreating the Middle Ages in 20th-century Berkeley was an anachronism (something "out of time"), and because the goal was creativity, they came up with "The Society for Creative Anachronism". It was a spur-ofthe-moment invention; they had no idea that the name would stay with their group into the future. (sca.org) for the gathering, the organizers needed to list a name for their group on the

The SCA currently claims 19 kingdoms, spanning the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. The Kingdom of the West officially gained title from the Societys conception in 1966, in Berkeley, California, near San Francisco. It spans from northern California and northern Nevada, to the far reaches of Alaska, Japan, South Korea and Guam. Our sister Gwynne holds fort in the Northern Nevadan regions of the Western Kingdom. Brother continue our claim to this great shivery expanse. Two years later, in 1968, the East Kingdom was formed. These lands extend from portions of Pennsylvania and New York, Delaware, New Jersey, the New England states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, and the Canadian lands of Quebec, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. The major Confedian settlements hold rule over the East Kingdom and the Kingdom of Aethelmearc. If youve seen battle at the Ukrainian Homestead, youve been to the East. The Midrealm was formed in 1969 and holds the lands of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Ontario. The OMalley Clan guards this eastern border and Tyrvar is our sentinel to the northwestern lakes. In 1971 Atenveldt was created in the lands of Arizona, and slivers of southern Nevada and Utah. After a short hiatus in the expansion of the Knowne World (I mean, whats in Tyrvar planted a flag beside a moose in the frigid northern lands of Alaska! Larry and Leia

Arizona, really, anyway?!), the Kingdom of Meridies was formed in 1978. These lands include Alabama and parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Florida, and Georgia. It previously contained the lands of the Kingdom of Gleann Abhann, which ceded in 2005. Cadoc safeguards Meridies in Georgia. The realm was expanded in the same year to form the Kingdom of Caid in southern California, southern Nevada (Vegas Baby!) and Hawaii. Hartekanute and Sophie conduct point! ambassadorial excursions to retain our power over the Hawaiian Islands to a needle-sharp

The Society expanded to Oklahoma and Texas and formed Ansteorra in the following year. Therion and Amber watch over these amber waves of grain for our grand Household.

Atlantia formed in 1981 in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and a bit of Georgia. Talun and Elizabeth watch the shores from the Carolinas. The following year, An Tir emerged in the northern lands of British Columbia, Albert and Saskatchewan, Canada, and Washington, Idaho and Oregon states. Calontir sprung up from the faithful followers of the Society in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas, in 1984. The Ogden clan keeps watch of these terrains for the Confederation. Trimaris became a Kingdom in 1985 when the Society discovered the moist, flowering domains of Florida. Some time following, we sent Arden in to form a Coup for Confed. In 1986 settlements were constructed in The Outlands from the state of New Mexico and portions of the states of Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. Another gap in Known World expansion occurred while the Country endured the

interregnum comprised of the Reagan and Bush presidencies. (Discuss amongst yourselves)

Drachenwald. European countries active in this Kingdom are Ireland, the UK, Denmark,

A gasp of fresh air came for the Knowne World with the formation of the Kingdom of

Sweden, Finland, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Greece. Switzerland is a neutral zone. Go figure. Other countries include Iceland, Israel and South Africa. One member of Confed, Noel, has established an outpost in Ireland. These and other outlying regions have been gallantly claimed in the name of the Mountain Confederation, including China, the Forbidden City, and the Holy Lands, by Tyrvar, and the whole of Brazil and of Scotland by Grania, as well as Britain, Spain, Germany and the Orient via Hong Kong. Grania would have claimed France as well, but in an encounter with natives, she decided they were better left to their own devices. Joss also conquered the Scottish Castles of Sterling and Edinburg and triumphed over Morocco. And in the

tropical islands south of Trimaris, Brychen brought the Island of Barbados to freedom within the Confederation. In 1997, Artemisia was established in the far-off, mountain regions of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and an edge of Colorado. In the same year, AEthelmearc was formed from the western, Debatable Lands of the East Kingdom, comprising of West Virginia and the western parts of New York and Pennsylvania. This is the site of the Great Pennsic Wars, that once were fought between the East and the Midrealm for who would control these Lands. Neither wanted them. Eventually, the natives were fed up with this exterior squabbling over their own lands, and rose up to battle for sovereign rule. This kingdom has sustained autonomous regime for fourteen years now. Many of our brethren defend these mountains for our Honor. Ealdormere was created within the territory of Ontario, Canada in 1998. (Yeah, thats all I got for that one!) In 2002, Australia, New Zealand and Antarctic territories were fashioned into the

Kingdom of Lochac to establish local governance for these distant lands down-under.

The Kingdom of Northshield was inaugurated in 2004 in the lands of Manitoba and Ontario, Canada, and North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and part of Michigan, U.S.A. Gavin and his brood watch over these lands from North Dakota.

The Kingdom of Gleann Abhann was created in 2005 from the former Meridies territories of Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas. Seigen is our Confederation custodian round these parts.

greatness spans the globe and is known worldwide! There are only a few lands we havent laid claim to! My challenge to you is to venture forth in world domination to the call of Honor Not Honors! I encourage you all to write your stories of conquest to be esteemed in the Halls of the Cater-wauls in the successive seasonal newsletters!
