Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity (1891)

The ultimate goal that a Christian should always keep in mind is God's glory. The first commandment and the first petition of the Lord's Prayer teaches this to us. We do not consider this the way we should. Therefore it is necessary that we often encourage ourselves to that. Luke 17:11-19 Give God Glory! 1. in trouble, a. despair of all other help and seek help from Christ alone, Who is a Master to help, b. recognize your unworthiness1 and appeal alone to His mercy.2 2. according to help obtained, a. recognize in your heart that all help alone comes from Him.3 Luther: "But why does St. Luke say that these had seen some...."4 b. confess this cheerfully with your mouth.5 G.
