Session Initiation Protocol

The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an application level signalling protocol for setting up, modifying, and terminating realtime sessions between participants over an IP data network. SIP can support any type of single-media or multi-media session, including teleconferencing. Users in a SIP network are identified by unique SIP addresses. Format: userID@gateway.com.
