Management Information Systems — an overview Management Information Systems concept; evolution and elements of MIS; definition, characteristics and basic requirements of MIS; structure of MIS; computerised MIS; approaches of MIS development; pre-requisites of an effective MIS; computers and its effect on MIS, limitations of MIS; MIS v. data processing, MIS and decision support systems, MIS and information resource management, executive information and decision support systems; artificial intelligence and expert system, MIS in Indian organisations; recent developers in Information Technology. 3. Computers and Communication — an overview The information technology – the concept of global village, on-line information services, electronic bulletin board systems; the Internet; intranet; extranet; electronic mail; interactive video; communication channels; communication networks; local area networks; wide area networks; video conferencing; emerging information technologies in new millennium. 4. Client/Server Computing Communication servers; digital networks; electronic data interchange and its applications; enterprise resource planning systems (ERP systems); inter-organisational information systems; value added networks. 5. Electronic Commerce and Internet E-Commerce — basics; e-commerce and Internet; applications of Internet; website management; multi- media. 6. Contemporary Issues and Developments.
