 What is Testing Atmosphere?

• Std. atmosphere for testing :-
Temperature = 20º C/ 68ºF R. H. =65%
• Testing Atmosphere :-
Temperature = 20º C ± 2º C or 68 ± 4º F
27º C ± 2º C or 81 ± 4º F (For sub tropical
countries)

 Absolute Humidity:
The weight of water present in unit volume of
moist air is called Absolute Humidity. It is expressed in
grains per cubic feet or grains /cubic meter.

 Relative humidity:
R.H. is a ratio of the actual vapour pressure to
that of a saturated vapour pressure at the same
temperature.
R.H. is also defined as the ratio of absolute
humidity of air to that of air saturated with water vapour
at the same temperature & pressure.

Absolute humidity of air

R.H. = at the same temp. & pre.
---------------------------------------- ^100%
Air saturated with water
vapour
Or,
Actual vapour pressure
R.H. = at the same temp. & pre.
---------------------------------------- ^100%
Saturated pressure
 Factors affecting the regain of textile mtls 
Major factors are:-
 Time
 Temperature
 Relative humidity
 Types of mtls.
 Previous history of the mtls

TIME 
In the curve two samples (Dry & wet) are drawn
against time. It’s obtained as shown in fig. the regain
changes quickly at first but then it goes to equilibrium
condition
To more slowly.
reach equilibrium
condition depends on the size
of mtls, form of the mtls &
external condition of mtls.

Say testing yarn count the

yarn hank should need at
least 3hrs. Time

MR

Should need 1hr. conditioning time. But a package of yarn

need at least 3hrs conditioning time.

TEMPERATURE:
For practical purpose, the effect of temp. on regain
isn’t important because of the effect of temp. plays a little
effect on regain.

PREVIOUS HISTORY OF MTLS:

The behaviors of textile materials can be
studied from the curves produced by plotting regain
against relative humidity.

TYPE OF MTLS:
Loose mtls M.R 
Compact mtls M.R 
RELATIVE HUMIDITY:
Relative Humidity M.R .
Relative Humidity M.R. 
