A Guided Tour of

Stars and their qualities

GPS Topic: S2E1 Students will understand that stars have


different sizes, brightness, and patterns

Annotation: Gives details and interesting facts about the sun,


the planets, and comets.

Activity 1: Kids will go to this website and read about the sun
and then view the facts on comets and asteroids. The kids will
then write down a question they want to learn about stars.

Annotation: This site gives a wonderful overview on what a star


is and the different sizes of stars.

Activity 1: The children will read about stars and click on the
words in blue to better explain what the paragraph is saying.
Then they will read about the different sizes of stars and see
pictures of certain types. Also be looking to see if the answer to
their question is in this information.

Annotation: This site allows the kids to connect the stars to form
different constellations

Activity 1: The kids will connect the stars to find the


constellation the program is asking. This will allow the kids to
see up close what some of the constellations look like. They will
be asked to write down their favorite constellation.

Annotation: Website has many different categories the kids can


explore to learn more about our solar system

Activity 1: The children will pick a category that looks interesting


to them and write down five facts that they learned. Then the
class will share what they learned from their category they
picked.

diagrams along with it.

Activity 1: The children will read the paragraph on why stars


twinkle then we will sing the song “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”.

Activity 1: The Children will listen to the star song and sing
along with it by the words provided to them. When we are done
with the song they will view the “Did you know” question.

Annotation: An online coloring book that allows children to color


their own comet.

Activity 1: The children will paint their own comet and then when
they have finished everyone will print their picture off. These
pictures will be displayed later.

finder.

Activity 1: The kids will read along while we follow the


instructions to build a star finder. The kids can then find their
