Assignments
1. Chapter 2: 2.23(316.38 K); 2.34(-67130.4 Btu/hr). 2. Chapter 3: 3.17(W= 879 kJ); 3.18; 3.20; 3.47(79.63 bar); 3.50(10.87 bar). 3. Chapter 5: 5.7(W=5.33x106 kW; QH=8.53x106 kW); 5.10; 5.12; 5.15; 5.17(2.5);

5.26(6.02 J/mol.s). 4. Problem 5.26 (continued): (a) Calculate the ideal work and compare it with the value of reversible work and explain the difference if there is any. Redo (a) for one mole of an ideal gas to be compressed from at 130 and 2.5 bar to 6.5 bar adiabatically.
(b) 5. Chapter 6: 6.2; 6.20(x=0.076; S=1.1x10-3 J/g.K) ; 6.76(5159.26 kJ); 6.89. 6. Estimate V, H, and S for steam at 500 and 8600 kPa if H and S are set equal to

zero for saturated liquid at 0.01 (p. 716 in the text) and discuss the deviations of your results from those listed on the steam table. (Hint: Follow the methodologies used in Example 6.9; V=38.27 cm3/g; H=3448.6 kJ/kg; S=6.98 kJ/kg.K)
7. Chapter 7: 7.8; 7.26(WS=-593.09 kW; =0.576; SGeneration=1127 J/K.s); 7.34(1173

kW); 7.57(3.26x104 dollars).

8. Chapter 8: 8.1(cycle=0.311); 8.7(=28.63%; x=13%). 9. Solve Example 8.2 with a detail and complete solution. 10. A power plant which uses hot spring water as the heating source operates a

Rankine cycle with HFC-134a (see attached PDF file) as the working fluid. The boiler sets at a temperature of 80 and the condenser at 30. If both the turbine and the pump work at single phase region, (a) What is the thermal efficiency of a Rankine cycle operating at these conditions if both the turbine and the pump have an efficiency of 0.85? (b) Please draw a flow diagram of the Rankine cycle in accordance with the Problem stated. The diagram must indicate the locations of boiler, turbine, condenser, and pump as well as their respective thermodynamic properties (T, P

and H ). (c) In accordance with (b), please plot a corresponding T-S diagram which shows each operation stage.
