WaterPollution Water Pollution is a major problem. It is the illegal dumping of waste and t oxins into bodies of water.

70% of the Earths surface is water and a very critic al resource to all that live on this planet. By polluting our rivers, lakes, and oceans we are slowly but surely harming our planet to the point where organisms are greatly being affected. Water pollution occurs when pollutants are put directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds. The pollut ion effects plants and organisms that live in the bodies of water effected. In a lmost all cases the effects are damaging to individual species, populations and biological communities. Water Pollution is a major problem. Farmers that sp ray their feilds with insecticides and are constibuting to the problem. The inse cticides leak into the ground and run into water systems and can get into drinki ng water. The water ways are then poisonous and no longer usable. Along with tha t the organisms that inhabit the water die. What is being done? In 1970, the Clean Water Act provided 50 billion dollars to cities and state s to build wastewater facilities. This has helped control surface water polluti on from industrial sources throughout the United States. When congress passed the Clean Water Act in 1972, states were given prima ry authority to set their own standards for their water. In addition to these s tandards, the act required that all state beneficials use their criteria and mus t comply with the fishable and swimmable goals of the act. This essentially mea ns that state beneficial uses must be able to support aquatic life and recreatio nal use. Keep our water clean by disposing of your trash properly and do not contr ibute to the problem. Clean up the beaches and streams near you. save our Earth and lives of important organisms that live on it and keep it going round.
