Cyclonic or Frontal precipitation results when the leading edge of a warm, moist air mass meets a cool and dry air mass. The molecules in the cold air are more tightly packed together.
A large cyclonic storm occur when a warm air mass and a cold air mass collide.
The tornados form when mid-latitude where warmer air is displaced along fronts between air masses .
The figure illustrates the patterns of wind flow, surface pressure, fronts, and zones of precipitation associated with cyclonic precipitation in the Northern Hemisphere :
Around the low pressure (L), winds blow counterclockwise and inwards.
NOTE: the direction of air flow would be in the opposite direction in the Southern Hemisphere (clockwise but still inward).
