Comes Home 1. Plot

Exposition

The story begins when Philip came into the dining-room to get a breakfast. But, he found nothing there, so he returned to the morning-room, and then he rang the bell to call the maid. He ordered his breakfast to the maid Mary, but she hesitated that neither she nor the cook Mrs. Higgins could make it, because the breakfast has cleared away an hour ago and it is not appropriate with the master schedule. Rising Action When Uncle James fell asleep and daydreamed about him who got a tense discussion with his nephew Philip about his plan for Philips future. In his dream Uncle James insisted to ask James to talk about his future to work in his jam business, but Philip kept insisting to argue his uncle talk, until their conversation was getting tense and Philip took out a revolver from his pocket and fondled it affectionately. Climax When Philip could not bear anymore with the discussion and he aimed his uncle with his revolver for sure. He intended to shoot him and started to countdown. Falling action When Uncle James was awakened from his sleep and dream. He got a discussion with his nephew Philip same as his dream. But, at this time, Philip did not argue what his uncle talk. He talked in proper manner to his uncle, not same as Uncle Jamess dream. On the other hand, Uncle James became so careful in talking to Philip because of dream that he had.

Resolution and Denouement

When Philip agreed to accept his uncles offer to work in his uncles jam business.

2. Characters and Characterization - Philip He is the main, round and active character in this drama. He is a young man who has come back from joining Army for war in France. He is twenty-one years old, but it seems like he is more mature at his age. It is confirmed by his way in talking when facing Mrs. Higgins, when convincing his Aunt, Emily, and when having discussion with Uncle James. He is also a good and kind-hearted man. He loves his aunt so much. It is confirmed by his way in talking to his aunt, Emily. He is a clever and brave man for something that he thinks right. It is confirmed when he faces Mrs. Higgins to get his breakfast. Overall, he is a man who is trying to leave his life as a soldier in Army before and being independent. It is confirmed by his statements when having a discussion about his future with his Uncle, James. - Uncle James He is the round and active character in this drama. He is a discipline man. It is confirmed by his action when he comments about Philips lateness in having breakfast. He is also a visionary man. It is confirmed by his action when he intends to talk to Philip about Philips future by asking him to join in his business. Moreover, he is a hard-worker and busy man. It is confirmed by his disappointment statement, when he knows that he has been sacrificing his work only to talk to his nephew, but there is no sign of Philip there to meet him. He is also a man who is not easy to get on with and strict. It is proven by Aunt Emilys comment. Furthermore, it seems like Uncle James is a hard-will or idealist man, it is confirmed by his dialogue in the drama, he does not like something which does not fit with his will. - Aunt Emily She is the round and active character in this drama. She is a good and kind-hearted person who loves her nephew, Philip so much. It is confirmed by her action and dialogue when she talks to Philip, and also when she tries to care for Philip when talking to her husband, James.
- Mrs. Higgins

She is the round and active character in this drama. She is a determined and disciplines cook who always do her work according and appropriate to the masters rule. She can be

disobeying to orders which are not appropriate to the masters rule. It is confirmed when she insists to not obey Philip order to make a breakfast for him only because it has been late from the time rule. It seems like she can be frightening temper person, who can press anybody when she knows there is an inappropriate order or something which is inappropriate for her. It is confirmed by Aunt Emilys hesitation and fear to get a bad business with her. - Mary She is the flat and static character in this drama. She is a parlour-maid who is clear and disciplines of masters rule. She is a good maid who always tries to obey what has been arranged on the master rule. It is confirmed by her action when Philip orders her to bring her breakfast which has been late. 3. Language Language that is used in this drama is predominated by literal and low / colloquial language. But there are some figurative languages also which can be found ion this drama, for example: JAMES : If you knew which side your bread was buttered, it would appeal to you very considerably. PHILIP : I'm afraid I can't see the butter for the jam. 4. Setting The setting of the drama takes place on a room in Uncle Jamess house in the Cromwell Road, England, when the day after the war. 5.
