E) AIR HANDLING UNITS (DOUBLE SKIN)

1.0 GENERAL:

The air handling units shall be complete in all respects and shall generally comply with the
specifications as given in the following paragraphs.

2.0 SCOPE:

2.1 Scope of work under this section comprises the supply, erection, testing and commissioning of
double skin air handling units of capacities specified in the schedule of equipment.

3.0 AIR HANDLING UNITS:

3.1 The air handling units shall be double skin, draw through type and shall include pre filter, fan
section, coil section, filter sections, mixing chamber (wherever specified in BOQ) etc. as
mentioned below.

3.2 Fan Section

The fan shall be forward/ backward curved, double inlet double width type. The wheel & housing
shall be fabricated from heavy gauge galvanized steel. The fan impeller shall be mounted on a
solid shaft supported to housing with angle iron frame & pillow block heavy duty ball bearings.
The fan shall be selected for a speed not exceeding 1000 RPM. Shaft sizes shall be carefully
calculated and designed such that the maximum operating speed (RPM) shall not exceed 75% of
the first critical speed. The impeller & fan shaft shall be statically and dynamically balanced. The
fan outlet velocity shall not be more than 1800 FPM. Fan housing with motor shall be mounted on
a common steel base mounted inside the air handling housing on anti-vibration springs mounts.
The fan outlet shall be connected to casing with the help of fire retardant canvass. The fan shall
be complete with multi 'V' belt drive, and adjustable motor mounting base.

3.3 CooIing CoiI:

The cooling coil shall be of seamless copper tubes, not less than 0.4 mm thick and 12 mm O.D.
The coils shall have 0.16mm thick aluminium fins. The fins shall be spaced by collars forming
integral part of the fins. The tubes shall be staggered in the direction of air flow. The fins shall be
uniformly bonded to the tubes by mechanical expansion of the tubes. The coils shall have 10 to
12 fins per inch.

The water headers shall be of copper pipes, to connect all the tubes. The headers shall be
complete with water in/out connections, vent plug on top and drain at the bottom, and designed to
provide water velocity between 0.6 to 1.8 m/s (2 to 6 fps).

3.4 FiIter Section:

Each AHU shall include pre-filters conforming to specifications as mentioned in section "Air
Filters.

3.4.1 Pre filter of 90% efficiency by weight.

3.5 Drain Pan:

The sandwiched drain pan shall be of 18 gauge stainless steel internal sheet and SS drain
connection of suitable size, complete with 25mm rigid insulation. The external sheet shall be 22
gauge galvanized steel.

3.6 CoiI and FiIter Housing:
The cooling coils, special and standard filters etc., shall all be housed in a separate enclosure of
suitable size and length.

The enclosure shall be sized to accommodate the absolute and high efficiency filters. The
inspection doors, shall have double synthetic rubber seals doors and locking arrangements. The
gaps between filter frames and housing shall have synthetic rubber packing, to eliminate any air
leakage. All filter frames shall be of aluminium.

3.7 AHU EncIosure/Housing:
The AHU housing shall be made of double skin design with main structure made of structural
channel frame work in different sections. The panels shall be double skin sandwich type with 0.63
mm galvanized powder coated/ pre-painted sheet on the outside and 0.63mm aluminium sheet
on inside with 25 mm thick injected polyurethane foam insulation material in between. All sections
shall be bolted to each other with neoprene rubber gasket in between them for perfect airtight
joints.

3.8 Fan Motor & Starter:
3.8.1 The totally enclosed fan cooled squirrel cage fan motor shall have a minimum rating as given
under "Schedule of Equipment". The starter rating shall match the motor rating and will conform
to specifications under "Motor and Switch Gears. Drive to fan shall be provided through belt-drive
arrangement. Belts shall be oil resistant type.

3.9 ControIs:
Each air handling unit shall be provided with temperature sensor and a 2 - way modulating valve
for temperature control, conforming to specifications. Prices of these items shall be covered
separately in BOQ.

3.10 Fresh Air ControIs:
An adjustable manual damper of M.S./G.. Sheet along with bird screen, air inlet louvers and air
filters shall be provided for fresh air entry.

4.0 ACCESSORIES:

Each air handling unit shall be complete with:

4.1 Stem type thermometers at coil inlet and outlet, with tubing and gauge cocks (priced separately).

4.2 Pressure gauge with cock at inlet and outlet of the coil, with tubing and gauge cocks (priced
separately).

4.3 Butterfly valves at coil inlet and outlet and balancing valve at coil outlet (priced separately).

4.4 Drain line from the unit upto drain trap (priced separately).

4.5 Fire rated double canvas flexible connection between the fan outlet and duct (Priced
separateIy).

4.6 Door limit switch shall be provided for automatically trip the fan when the door is opened. (onIy
for fIoor mounted AHUs).

4.7 View port is provided on fan door panel which help to monitor fan and motor status. Marine lamp
with toogle switch to be provided for easy visibility (onIy for fIoor mounted AHUs).

4.7 Spring type of Vibration isoIators (price incIusive).

F) FAN COIL UNITS

1.0 GeneraI

The fan coil units shall be complete in all respects and shall generally comply with the
specifications as given hereunder.

2.0 Fan CoiI Units:

2.1 The fan coil units shall be ceiling mounting type complete with finned coil, fan section with
motor, drain pans, air filters, filter box, fan speed regulator and other controls.

2.2 CooIing CoiI :

The cooling coil tubes shall be made of best quality seamless annealed copper not less than 5/8
inch. O.D. 1.00 mm thick, the coil shall have continuous aluminium plate fins of adequate cross
section area. The fins shall be spaced by collars forming integral part of the fins. The tubes
shall be staggered in the direction of air flow. The coil circuit should be sized for adequate
water velocity but not exceeding 1.8 m/s (6 f.p.s) the fins shall be uniformly bonded to the
tubes by hydraulic expansion of the tubes.

The coils shall be tested against leaks at a hydraulic pressure of 10 kg/sq.cm. this pressure
shall be maintained for a period of 2 hours. No drop should be observed indicating any leaks.
The cooling coil face area shall be min. 0.16m

2.3 Fan Section :

2.3.1 This shall consist of (2) two light weight aluminium impellers of forward curved type,
both statically and dynamically balanced, along with properly designed G.. sheet casings.

2.3.2 The two impellers shall be directly mounted on to a double shaft, single phase multiple
winding motor capable of running at (3) three speeds.

2.3.3 Fan motor shall be with double ball bearing operating not higher than 960 rpm.

2.3.4 A. G.. plenum shall connect the fan outlets to the coil.

2.4 Drain Pans :

2.4.1 The drain pan shall be extended type of double skin sandwich construction made of 1.25 mm
(16 gauge) G.. sheet, covering the whole of coil section and extended on one side for
accommodating coil connection, valve etc and complete with a 25 mm drain connection.
The drain pan shall be insulated with 25 mm polyurethane foam and covered with second G..
tray.

2.4.2 Air Filter :

The filter shall be cleanable (washable) type 12 mm thick, of G wire mesh to be
mounted, behind the pan in a filter box made of G.. sheet.

2.4.3 Speed Control:

A sturdy switch shall be provided with the unit complete with wiring, for ON/OFF and with
minimum (3) three speed control, of the fan.

2.5 Painting:

The fan coil units would powder coated in suitable colour.

2.6 Water Connections:

The water lines shall be finally connected to the coil of the fan coil unit, by at least 300 mm
long, type l seamless solid drawn copper tubing with flare fittings and connections.

2.7 MisceIIaneous:

The operating noise level at the supply air grill shall not exceed 35 dB.

2.7.2 F.C.U. shall be manufactured in such a way that the unit can be dismantled through the trap door
without disturbing the drain pan. Rubber antivibration mountings shall be provided between the
drain pan and F.C.U. body. The drain pan shall be independent assembly from FCU.

G) AIR COOLED SPLIT TYPE CONDITIONER UNIT:

1.0 SCOPE:

The scope of this section comprises supply, erection, testing and commissioning of self-contained air
cooled split air- conditioning units and auxiliaries conforming to these specifications and in accordance
with the drawings.

2.0 SPLIT UNITS:

Air cooled split unit shall be as per approved make, energy efficient scroll hermitically or semi-
hermitically compressor complete with vibration isolators & factory installed controls (like HP & LP
cutouts, inter locking Fan & Compressor, Thermostat with selector switch etc) & accessories including
wiring. Efficient cooling coil shall be selected for low velocity with 3/8"/1/2" OD copper tubing having
extended aluminium fins. Hydraulic expansion of tubes assures tight bonding between tubes & fins for
high heat transfer. Tubes shall be arranged in a staggered design for best air contact thus giving low
bypass. The cooling coil circuits are fed with liquid refrigerant through the thermostatic expansion valve
and a distributor. Blower of an evaporating unit shall be statically and dynamically balanced and shall be
selected to give required airflow as identified in the drawings. Filters shall be minimum 25mm thick
synthetic type or equivalent wire aluminium frame. Drain pan shall be of 18 gauge insulated with
expanded polyethylene sheet. Casing shall be heavy gage factory painted to provide better protection
against rusting.

Remote air cooled condensing unit shall have to be most efficient condenser coils made out of copper
tubing with extended aluminium fins. Tubes shall be arranged in a staggered design for better
efficiency. Condenser fans shall be selected to operate quietly for required CFM to keep condensing
temperature low. The compressor may be in the indoor unit or with the outdoor unit, but, it should be
capable of operating continuously even at high ambient of 46 deg C (115 deg F). The condensing unit
shall be installed with steal base frame, alongwith cushy foot mounting vibration isolation pads.

nterconnected refrigerant piping between outdoor unit & indoor unit shall be of heavy gauge copper
complete with thermostatic expansion valve, liquid line strainer, drier, shut off valves, high & low
pressure gauges including insulated suction line. 25mm thick neoprene rubber pads shall be supplied
for each indoor/outdoor units. The units shall be tested in accordance with S:1391.

3.0 INSTALLATION:

The units shall be mounted on ribbed rubber pads for vibration isolation. The contractor shall supply the
required charge of refrigerant, lubricant and other consumables, for commissioning and testing of the
equipment.

All the equipment shall be thoroughly tested and checked for leaks. All safety controls shall be suitably
set and a record of all setting shall be furnished to the project supervisor.

4.0 TESTING:

Unit capacity in tons Refrigeration, shall be computed from the temperature readings and air-flow
measurements. Flow measurements shall be preferably by a hot-wire anemometer or a velometer.
Computed results shall conform to the specified capacities and the power consumption shall conform to
the figures furnished by the manufacturer.

5.0 PAINTING:
Shop coats of paint that have become marred during transportation or erection shall be cleaned off with
mineral spirits, wire brushed and spot primed over the affected areas, then coated with enamel paint to
match the finish over the adjoining shop- painted surfaces.

6.0 CONDENSER DRAIN PIPING :

All pipes to be used for cold water (makeup), drain, and condensate drain shall be PVC pipe conforming
to S: 4985 - Class & all joints should be Gluing or solvent cementing as per manufacturer
recommendation.

7.0 REFRIGERANT PIPING:

a. All refrigerant pipes and fittings shall be type `L' hard drawn copper tubes and wrought copper
fitting suitable for connection with silver solder phos copper.

b. All joints in copper piping shall be sweat joints using low temperature brazing and/or silver
solder. Before jointing any copper pipe or fittings, its interior shall be thoroughly cleaned be
passing a clean cloth via wire or cable through its entire length. The piping shall be continuously
kept clean of dirt etc. while construction the joints. Subsequently, it shall be thoroughly blown
out using carbondioxide/nitrogen.

c. Refrigerant lines shall be sized to limit pressure drop between evaporator and condensing unit
to less than 0.2 kg per Sq.cm.

d. Removable type combination drier and filter shall be installed in liquid line of the refrigeration
system incorporating a three way valve bypass. After ninety days of operation, liquid line drier
and filter cartridges must be replaced.

e. After the refrigerant piping installation has been completed the refrigerant piping system shall be
pressure tested using, Freon mixed with nitrogen/carbondioxide at a pressure of 20 Kg per Sq.
cm. (High side) and 10 Kg per Sq. cm (Low side) pressure shall be maintained on the system
for a minimum of 12 hours. The system shall then be evacuated to a minimum vacuum of 70
cm. of mercury and held for 24 hours, during which time, change in vacuum shall not exceed 12
cm of mercury. Vacuum shall be checked with vacuum gage.

f. All refrigerant piping shall be installed strictly as per the instructions and recommendations of air
conditioning equipment manufacturers.

8.0 TESTING & BALANCING:

a. All piping shall be tested to hydrostatic test pressure of atleast two and half times the maximum
operating pressure, but not less than 24 hours. All leaks and defects in joints revealed during
the testing shall be rectified and gotten approved at site.

b. Piping repaired subsequent to the above pressure test shall be retested in the same manner.

c. System may be tested in sections and such sections shall be securely capped, then retested for
entire system.

d. The contractor shall give sufficient notice to all other agencies at site, of his intention to test a
section or sections of piping and all testing shall be witnessed and recorded by
Consultant/Project Manager.

e. The contractor shall make sure that proper noiseless circulation of fluid is achieved through all
coils and other heat exchange equipment in the system concerned. f proper circulation is not
achieved the contractor shall rectify the defective connection. He shall bear all expenses for
carrying out the above rectifications, including the tearing up and refinishing of floors and walls
as required.

f. The contractor shall provide all materials, tools, equipment, instruments, services and labour
required to perform the test.

g. Complete certified report shall be submitted to consultant/Project Manager for evaluation and
approval. Upon approval, four copies of the balancing report shall be submitted with complete
drawings and documents.
