Honda Insight Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Fleet and Accelerated Reliability Testing – September 2006

A total of six Honda Insight hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) started entering Fleet and
Accelerated Reliability testing during August 2001, in three fleets in Arizona. Three of
the Insight HEVs were driven less than 25,000 miles each (Fleet testing) and the fourth
was driven 68,000 miles. During January 2005, the fifth Insight reached 160,000 miles
(Accelerated Reliability Testing) and active mileage accumulation stopped, while the
remaining Insight completed testing during March 2005 due mechanical issues, when it
had accumulated 146,000 miles. The two high-mileage Insights had their fuel efficiencies
retested on dynamometers (with and without air conditioning) and their batteries were
capacity tested at the end of testing . The results of this testing can be found in the end-

and maintenance requirements, operating costs, life-cycle costs, and any unique driving
issues.

The six Insight HEVs were driven a total of 417,450 miles and the cumulative average
fuel economy for the Insights HEVs was 45.2 miles per gallon.
