The Four Ways in which a dream can originate:

1.  A recent and important fact of the dreamer's emotional life is directly 
represented in the dream.
2. Several recent and important ideas are blended into a simple whole by the 
dream. Condensation.
3.  One or a number of recent and important events in a dreamer's emotional life 
may be represented in hte dream by an equally recent but relatively indifferent 
memory.  Displacement.
4.  An important but long past and buried memory or idea is represented in the 
dream by a recent and relatively indifferent impression. 

Symbolization:

The male genitalia:
The sacred number three
Things that share the same shape: daggers, knives, guns, umbrellas, trees, sticks
Things from which water flows: hoses, water taps, fountains
Things which are capable of being lengthened: hanging lamps, trombone.
Things that go up:  balloons, flying machines
Fish, hats, overcoats, cloaks

Women have flying dreams as part of wish fulfillment ­ they have penis envy.

The female genitalia:
Enclosing a hollow space which can take something into itself: pits, cavities, 
caves, bottles, boxes, trunks, cases, chests, pockets, and ships.
Resemble the uterus: cupboards, stoves, room.
Doors, gates
Materials are symbols of women: wood, paper (and things made from them)
Snails and mussels, the mouth, churches 渮

Secondary Elaboration:

The sense that one tries to make out of his/her dream upon awaking. 
Censorship may even take place within a dream. One may not see faces clearly, hear 
commands clearly, etc.
