    Hirsutism is an increase in hair growth in women in areas typical of males such as the face and back. It is not the same as hypertrichosis which is non-hormonal excessive hair growth. Hirsutism can be caused by physiological factors like puberty or drugs, or medical conditions including polycystic ovary syndrome, tumors of the ovaries or adrenal glands, thyroid disease, or congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Treatment options include oral contraceptives to suppress ovarian function, steroids, anti-androgens like cyproterone acetate or spironolactone, or physical hair removal methods like bleaching, shaving, or electrolysis.

    It is increase growth of hair in women in a distribution to that similar to male . It should not be confused with hyper trichosis which is non androgen dependent hair growth . CAUSES. Racial Idiopathic .

    Physiological like puberty, pregnancy, menopause Drugs as danazol , steroids Polycystic ovary syndrome. Tumors : ovarian and adrenal . Thyroid disease Congenital adrenal hyperplasia

    TREATMENT
    Simple suppression of ovarian axis using oral contraceptive pills . That will lower LH and increase SHBG and the progesterone component of the pill is a competitive inhibitor of androgens . Steroids dexamethasone or prednisolone . Antiandrogen cyproterone acetate Spironolactone

    PHYSICAL METHODS. Bleaching . Shaving Electrolysis . Weight loss
