Key Features
Originally Sandstone. Granualr texture usually coarse, crystals randomly orientated. Light in colour Originally Shale or Mudstone. Medium to coarse grained and crystalline, randomly orientated. Dark in colour. Originally Limestone. Reacts to HCL. Crystalline, randomly orientated. Pale colours, but colours may vary.

Fine grained, Slatey Cleavage. Originally Shale. Usually high Mica content. Foliated. Could be formed from regional metamorphism of shale or an igneous rock with high Silica content. Foliated into bands of light and dark minerals. Coarse grained and crystalline, crystals can be aligned.
