100 Sec 75 Aug 31, 2009 Homework #1 It was a sunny day on Saturday, as I made my way to Mizzou Rec Center. When I arrived, I made my way to the basketball courts. Many games were taking place and lines were several teams deep at each court. I sat down and observed a game in the middle of the gym. All the players seemed like they have played basketball in the past, they knew what they were doing. If you listen closely to a basketball game, there are so many sounds that you overlook. For example, there is always the ball bouncing up off the floor or the rim, the shoes are always squeaking as the players make their cuts and breaks. Another thing I observed was the amount of talking that the team did. They always shouted out where the opposing players were and where they should look for the open shots. An additional thing I observed was the amount of screaming, whether it be out of frustration or thrill. During the game, someone was always yelling. In a way, observing a basketball game is like listening to a type of music. Also, the players were all smooth in their actions. All of their movements flowed together, showing that they had previous experience with the sport of basketball.
