TURBINE PROTECTION SYSTEM

PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR 200 MW KWU STEAM TURBINE

Turbine Trip system functions are:


Protection against sudden overspeeding Quick closing of Steam admission valves Protection against inadmissible operating parameters In case of plant failures, protection against subsequent damages

Types of trip devices:


Mechanical/Hydraulic turbine protection

Two Tripping Devices with integrated Manual Trip Devices Two Mechanical Overspeed monitor One Thrust bearing Trip Device One Hydraulic Low vacuum Trip Device

TRIPPING DEVICES
CONTROL OIL AND TRIP OIL IS CONNECTED VIA THE TRIPPING DEVICES WHICH KEEPS THE STOP VALVE OPEN BY MEANS OF TRIPPING DEVICES TRIP OIL PRESSURE IS RAPIDLLY REDUCED

TRIPPING DEVICE REMAIN IN OPERATING POSITION BY AUX TRIP OIL


IF AUX TRIP OIL PR FALLS ,THE PISTON MOVE TO TRIP POSITION BY SPRING FORCE IT CONNECTED THE TRIP OIL LOOP TO THE DRAIN AND THE STOP VALVE CLOSE BY SPRING POWER

MANUAL TURBINE TRIP


THESE TRIP DEVICES ENABLE THE OPERATING PERSONNAL TO TRIP THE TURBINE BY MANUAL EITHER DURING OPERATIONAL S/D OR IN CASE OF IMPENDING FAULTS

THE LOCAL MANUAL TRIP CAUSES THE AUX TRIP OIL TO DRAIN AND THE STOP VALVES TO CLOSE VIA TRIPPING DEVICES

OVERSPEED TRIP DEVICES


THIS DEVICE PREVENTS EXCESSIVE ROTATIONAL SPEED OF THE TURBINE & CONSEQUENTLY CATASTROPHIC DESTRUCTION OF THE ROTOR DUE TO CENTRIFUGAL FORCES.

TWO O/S DETECTORS(BOLTS) ARE PROVIDED, ACTING INDEPENDENT OF EACH OTHER


THE TUR IS TRIPPED, IF A CERTAIN MAX PERMISSIBLE SPEED IS EXCEEDED

THRUST BEARING TRIP DEVICE


IN CASE OF EXCESSIVE WEAR OF THE SEGMENTS OF AXIAL THRUST BEARING ,THE AXIAL PLAY OF THE TUR SHAFT MAY EXCEED THE PERMISSIBLE LIMITS

TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE TUR, THE TUR IS TRIPPED IF THIS CONDITION ARRIVES
A MECH SHAFT POSITION MONITOR TRIPS THE TURBINE IF THE AXIAL PLAY OF THE ROTOR WRT THE THRUST BRG EXCEEDS THE PEMISSIBLE LIMIT.

HYDRAULIC LOW VACCUM TRIP DEVICES


TO PROTECT CONDENSER AGAINST EXCESSIVE PRESSURE,THE TURBINE IS TRIPPED,IF THE VAC IN THE CONDENSER BECOMES POOR

TRIPPING THE TURBINE STOPS THE STEAM FLOW TO THE CONDENSER VIA THE TURBINE

TWO CHHANEL REDUNDANCY ALL ELECTRICAL TRIP CRITERIA ACT ON TWO SOLENOID VALVES WHICH CAUSE STOP V/V TO CLOSE

THE ELECTRICAL TURBINE PROTECTION EQUIP. CONSISTS OF :


TWO SOLENOID V/V FOR TRIP INITIATION TWO EMERGENCY TRIP CONTACTOR CABINET CONTAINING THE TRIP CHANNELS 1& 2 MONITORS WITH SIGNAL CONDITIONING A SPECIAL CHANNEL DURING ATT

REMOTE TRIP DEVICES


THE SOLENOID VALVES FOR TRIP INITIATION (RTS 1/2) SERVE AS INTERFACES BETWEEN THE ELETRICAL AND MECH/HYD. TURBINE PROTECTION

IF THESE SOL VALVES ARE ENERGIZED AUX TRIP OIL IS CONNECTED TO DRAIN
THE OPERATION OF ONE CHANNEL IS SUFFICIENT TO TRIP THE TURBINE

IT CAN BE INITIATED EITHER BY MANUAL ACTION BY PB OR AUTOMATICALLY BY OIL TANK LEVEL LOW LOW OIL TANK LEVEL LOW LOW IS DETECTED BY SONER PROBE WHEN 2 OUT OF 3 PROBES SENSES LEVEL < -100 MM MOT LEVEL
