The relationship between thoughts and
expression is the relationship between intent
and content of the message.
Any communication is bound to be positive
and pleasant only when our thought process
is under control and we are in a positive
frame of mind to communicate and also
receive communication.

FormaI network / channeIs show that
information mainIy fIows in three
directions:
Downward.
Upward.
HorizontaI.
Downward
This occurs when superiors send down
messages to their subordinates.
Decision makers like the CEO and the
managers pass down information about job
plans, rationale, relevant instructions, policies
and procedures so that organizational culture
and nature of work are clearly understood.
Upward
Messages that are sent by subordinates to
superiors are labeled as upward
communication.
When employees are expected to perform
and show results, it is natural that they might
experience some difficulties in carrying out
the specified tasks.

nformaI Network/ChanneIs: The informaI network is aIso
IabeIed as grapevine .
Shared personaI experiences, career interests,
interpersonaI attraction, curiosity about peopIe, things
happening in the organization, and sociaI interaction are
the reasons behind its existence
Grapevine is mainIy the network of 'who taIks to whom'
which does not figure on the organizationaI chart.
Such taIks take pIace near the corridor, near the water
cooIer, in the wash room, near the notice boards where
peopIe cIuster around to express their feeIings without
any inhibitions.
