GANGWAY LOG BOOK INSTRUCTIONS

The following pages of this section show a comprehensive way of recording items of Gangway Log operations, as required by regulations of the SOLAS International Convention.

A- GANGWAY LOG BOOK


When making entries in the Gangway Log Book, the information it should be inserted in appropriate column in Capital Letters as here below:

1- Date of the day that the vessel is berthed (or even when not berthed but engaged in commercial activities) on or the proceeding day after that day (and as 23456it goes on). Port/Country where the ship is currently berthed. Ship Security Level of the ship. Ships S.S.O. shall take into consideration the requirements of ISPS Code in reference to information (if available) provided from Port Facility/Officer, Flag Administration directive(s)/ Company directive(s) about the Level of the Ship. Name and Last Name of visitor entering on board, if there is any Middle Name enter only the first letter of the Middle Name on the back of Name (see example attached). Entry Time should be entered only in 24-hour clock (is a convention of time keeping, example: 01:23). Exit Time, Same as above. Reason or Duty, enters shortly only the title/profession of the visitor or task he/she is about to undertake, whichever is more convenient. Enter with YES or NO the fact if his/hers Identity is being confirmed. Enter the Visitor Card Number provided to the visitor. Name and Last Name of the crew performing the duty on Gangway Watch. ONLY FOR THE OFFICER (S.S.O.)! signed by him upon completion of the page or the end of the day the log is kept.

The competent authority of the Government of a Party to the Convention may inspect the Gangway Log Book on board any ship to which this Convention applies while the ship is in its port or offshore terminals and may make a copy of any entry in that book and may require the master of the ship to certify that the copy is a true copy of such entry. Any copy so made which has been certified by the master of the ship as a true copy of an entry in the Gangway Log Book shall be made admissible in any juridical proceedings as evidence of the facts stated in the entry. The inspection of a Gangway Log Book and the taking of a certified copy by the competent authority under this paragraph shall be performed as expeditiously as possible without causing the ship to be unduly delayed.
