PART A

1.

Frederick Taylor based his studies on production-line workers in an attempt to determine the best method for doing each job. Organizing is the function of management that is best described as setting standards, comparing actual performance with these standards, and then taking corrective action as required. Strategic planning is the process by which an organization makes decision and takes actions that affect its long-run performance. Mission statement is a written document developed by management that describes and explains the organizational purpose. The devil's advocacy approach is a technique that encourages group members to generate as many novel ideas as possible on a given topic without evaluating them. When the decision situation is one that has occurred in the past and the response is routine, the decision is referred to as a non-programmed decision. The process of integrating the activities of different department in order to accomplish organizational goals is known as a division of work. Span of management refers to the number of supervisors an employee may have. The unity of command principle basically advocates that each employee should have not more than one leader to whom they are accountable. When managers from different department are brought together to work under a team leader for a specific project, it is known as functional structure. Feelings of equity or inequity are determined by an individual's perception of the employment situation. According to Maslow's hierarchy of need, people will first attempt to fulfill basic needs, such as physiological and safety needs, before making effort to satisfy other needs such as social and esteem needs. Goal setting theory assumes that human action is directed by conscious goals and intentions. Underlying the trait focus is the assumption that some people are endowed with certain physical characteristics, aspects of personality, and attitudes.

Feedforward control is designed to monitor ongoing activities to ensure that the transformation process is functioning properly and achieving the desired results. Channel is the medium through which the message travels. One of the barriers to effective communication is information overload which occurred when the amount of information one has to work with exceeds one's processing capacity. Total quality management encompasses a commitment employees at all levels to continually strive to make improvements in achieving organizational goals. Syura or mutual consultation in Islamic management implies transparency, open mindedness, respect, trust, empowerment, freedom of expression, readiness to be criticized and acceptance of divergent views.
