Prepared by : JSL Ong Bao Sheng On Wednesday 21, which is also the 8th day of the JSLs in the

School of Student Leadership, Snowy River Campus, Victoria, Australia. We had indigenous beach and coastal studies for the afternoon program. The JSLs, together with the Australian students were first divided into two cohorts. We took the school bus to a beach nearby to the Snowy River Campus to study aquatic ecosystem and the lives of Indigenous Australians. Before the class began, we were warned to not simply touch creatures that we saw as they may be poisonous. After that, we were given 10 minutes to discover the beach. It was really our fortunate to have seen starfishes, shark eggs and unique sea shells scattered all along the sea coast which we usually only get to see them in encyclopedia. As we walked along the sea coast, the teachers explained and elaborated on the lives of Indigenous Australians. We were all amazed by the functions of different stones that were used in daily lives by the tribes. After spending some time on the beach, we carried on our journey by walking the wooden path that was built on the hills. Strolling on the path, we read a lot of informative knowledge about many useful plants that grows along the hill and how they have been used by the Indigenous Australians. In conclusion, this trip has significantly benefitted all of us as we have gained so much knowledge on the differences between aquatic lives in Malaysia and Australia plus the wisdom of the Indigenous Australians that we could never get from books.
