The flute opens with a fragment which is counter-intuitive to'normal'diatonic musical syntax it stubbomly refuses to'work'in the conventional ways expected by the ear. The piece sets out to reconcile this musical "square-peg-in-a-round-hole" issue, and at one point even gets a little encouragement and modelling from the Master (originally, of course, in red-ink quill pen).
