Software Engineering for Medical Imaging

Priyanka Mathur Research Scholar, The IIS University, Jaipur. With the changing trends in medical diagnosis investigations like Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are being preferred more than the conventional ones, but equilibrium has to be established between a high scanning resolution, radiation exposure and inconvenience caused to the patient. The age old scanning systems helps the radiologist in examining with a set of 2D images of thin "slices" of the scanned part, which he has to then reconstruct. It is a time consuming and prone to error process, and limits the use of the scanned data. Transformation in medical visualization software has to an extent solved this problem by providing the user with a 3D representation of the patients anatomy reconstructed from the raw scanned data. This requires software with advanced rendering algorithms for easy manipulation of volumetric data. Gathering specifications for such devices are a component of treatment planning. This paper throws light on defining the software standards and use of Real-Time software which work in simulated environments. CAD based softwares are used for this purpose that model a specific patient and produce custom contours and surface representations in the desired format.
