In pairs, with your partner*, write a 500‐word essay of what you understand about the study of 
linguistics. The essay should cover why it is (not) significant to study linguistics. What is it that 
linguists are attempting to discover through their study of languages? What contribution do 
you think linguistics will give for the sake of human life? Make reference to our discussions in 
class and in our blog. Make sure you have the thesis statement and the arguments to support 
your thesis. Also, don’t forget to write your bibliography.  

Type your essay and print it on an A‐4 paper, double space.
