KINDERGARTEN NEWS

Please practice letters of the alphabet. Practice printing them and identifying the letters. A good way to identify letters is to use flashcards or look in books for them. Ask your child, Can you find the f on this page? and other news Your child should be able to break apart simple 3 letter words into the sounds in the word. For example, cat: /c/ /a/ /t/, bug /b/ /u/ /g/. Please practice this at home. This is the time of the year when kids have outgrown their shoesif you keep a pair here at school, ask your child how they are fitting. We are now singing What is the last sound that you hear in dog, dog, dog? Can your child isolate that last sound in a word and tell you the sound???
We are doing more writing in class. We are working on sounding out words when we write, putting spaces in between words in sentences, and adding details to pictures that we draw. Next week will be a busy week as I will be assessing for most of the week. It is a fun time for me as I can sit one on one with each child! We are sequencing pictures. Can your child read simple 3 letter words? We have been practicing this lately. Can they read rug, hat, sun, rob, him, etc.?

LETTERS/SOUNDS WE KNOW

LETTER(S) OF THE WEEK B and R please practice making upper and lower case Bb and Rr next week. Please also practice the other letters we have learned from previous weeks. Review words that begin with each letter. Listen for words that begin with each letter. Find the letters in books you read!

MATH: We are counting to 100 often. We are counting backwards from 13. We are learning how to skip count. The children listen and help me count by 5s up to 75. We skip count to 100 by 10s. We sequence numbers as well. Does your child recognize the penny and the dime and know the value of each? We are counting money with dimes and pennies. This is a skill that takes time and lots of practice. Still searching for some fun games to play on the internet that helps with counting money. We are learning teen numbers. We are learning that teen numbers always start with 1. Have your child sing our teen number song to you. We are using a ten block and ones to show teen numbers. They should be able to print numbers 0 19 as well. We are learning greater than and less than. Did you play monster squeeze yet? We are learning about the calculator and we are adding numbers up to 10. WORDS WE KNOW NEW WORDS

Introducing the word at and -at words. Look for the word at (as well as cat, hat, bat, sat, rat, etc) in books at home when you read. Can your child read these words and spell them? Can your child read/recognize the names
