Technology & Services

Resources Construction Management Design-Build

Maga's drive for excellence is anchored by its growing technology and resource base.

With a sound grasp of our operating environment and stakeholders, we combine an array resources & processes in delivering construction solutions.

Design solutions whose simplicity doesn't restrain their elegance, and whose cost-effectiveness doesn't limit their sustainability.

Products

Maga has the widest reach in terms of ready-mixed concrete and asphalt concrete production in the country.

Resources
Magas extensive resource base has helped provide cost-effective design and construction management solutions as well as allow island-wide supply of readymixed concrete, asphalt concrete and precast concrete elements. The company has established ten readymixed concrete and asphalt concrete batching plants in different locations in the country and has pioneered the production of Highstrength Triple-blend Temperature Controlled Concrete.

Construction Management In order to control the variables that surround both the local and global economies, the necessity of an intricate awareness of the climate of operations arises. A construction project embraces a distinct array of participants and stakeholders from the inception of a project to its completion. In order to enable the successful progression of a project right up to its conclusion, we as contractor hold a key responsibility in facilitating and coordinating the interactions between different parties. This awareness has helped us respond in the most effective, positive and mutually beneficial manner towards all

our stakeholders. All construction projects demand an amalgamation of the parties and processes involved, from the design and planning stages to mobilization, material supply, construction & commissioning phase of the project. Through the successful management of our engineers, foremen, workmen, subcontractors and suppliers we strive to give our clients the desired product as stemming from one entity, adhering to the project-specific conditions and quality objectives.

Design-Build Through its dynamic team of design engineers, Maga has provided its clients cost-effective design solutions that are elegant as well as sustainable. By also calling on the expertise of our construction management team during the design phase, we strive to maximise the constructability of each of our design solutions, thus minimizing the resources and time required. For instance, the 32storety Fairmount residencies, which featured a highly costeffective and efficient RCC-framed Tubular structural design, specifically catering for seismic-activity resistance. The structural-design and

built solution for Sri Lanka s first ever Green manufacturing plant ( Thurulie Model Green Factory at Thulhiriya) for MAS Holdings enabled the facility to be in contention for the Platinum/Gold LEEDS certification from the US Green Building Council.

The shape of things to come, as we intensify our focus on making optimum use of the company's collective resources.

Present
Throughout the past year, the construction sector continued to mirrorand to a certain extentshape the countrys future economic progression. Within this sector in particular, the opportunity to actively propel sustainable development in the country has never been greater. However, our capacity to do so hinged not only on our collective experience, knowledge and skills, but also on our ability to compete with international construction firms, manage the impact of various socioeconomic conditions, whilst attracting much needed investment during a period of global economic recovery. Against this backdrop, becoming sustainable required us to make our production processes leaner, provide more security and training to our employees, identify immediate risks in relation to our environment, whilst actively seeking investment. The challenge was to infuse sustainability ideals into all aspects of our core businessand vice versa i.e. create sustainable development through our core business: the provision of social and economic infrastructure that is well designed, highly functional and long lasting, thus adding value to the real economy. Our sustainability framework continues to offer a heightened sense of direction and purpose to our ongoing relationship with our environment, employees and external stakeholders. As the focus on nurturing these relationships grew, it also created a profound impact on the quality of our end-product and service.

HSE Reflecting its commitment to excellence in Health. Safety and Environment, Maga requires all its operations to - protect the health and safety of employees, contractors, visitors and others affected by our operations - operate business in an environmentally responsible manner - comply with all legal and other requirements to which company subscribes - promote awareness of HSE issues and their impact on employees - commit to continuous improvement of HSE performance.

Sustainability Reports Maga s Corporate Sustainability framework revolves around the company s responsiveness not just confined to the traditional benchmarks of being fast and efficient but being sincere and responsible. It is based on achieving organizational and societal growth simultaneously: that is, to achieve organizational development in the course of providing high quality social infrastructure.

Not only have we been able to successfully mitigate some of the risks prevalent in our industry through our sustainability framework, but been able to turn some of these risks in to opportunities. Examples can be drawn from projects that have developed clear links to a specific social or environmental context. These projects have enabled us to maintain and promote best-inclass industry standards in sustainable buildings, occupational health & safety, environmental protection, human resource development, ethical conduct and social infrastructure development.

A construction company is a creator of public infrastructure that serves as the backbone of a countrys economy. Therefore, it must ensure that such infrastructure serve their purpose well through out their design life, and foster both economic and social value around them. To do so, not only must the company possess exceptional technical know-how, but a heightened sense of professional ethics.

Magas Code of Ethical Conduct, the base document for its stance on ethical compliance, covers standards of conduct with respect to Fiduciary Obligations, Confidentiality, Equal Employment and Non-discrimination, Compliance with Environmental Requirements, Safety & Health, Conflicts of Interests, Communication and Records, Appearance, Disclosure of Corporate Information and Obligation to Report Violations and Cooperation.

History
Maga Engineering was founded by M.G Kularatne in 1983. It seized the opportunity to enter the construction industry, filling the void created by the high demand for construction activities sprouting from the open economy pursued by the government of the 1980s. The company took up the challenges the industry offered, acquiring construction managerial expertise by working alongside international contractors. Maga secured the first main contract for the construction of a three storied office building for National Building Research Organisation. This project was completed ahead of schedule whilst maintaining a remarkable level of workmanship. Construction of Eden Hotel in 1992 signified Magas entry into major building construction. The Company acquired the plant and machinery required for major construction work and successfully built a dynamic and dedicated team armed with the necessary knowledge and experience which can be considered its vital strength. It is this capacity and strength which enabled it to secure some of the most prestigious construction projects.

Quality Quality is at the heart of everything we do, and an unwavering approach to quality and sustainable development has been the underlying theme of the organisation throughout the years. Within the triple bottom line of economic, ecological and social impacts of its operations, the quality of its product is fundamental to the establishment of sustainability ideals of an organisation. We endeavour to sustain a very dynamic sense of quality through continual re-evaluation of our quality objectives with respect to an everevolving, volatile market demanding a diverse range of client requirements with the use of a limited set of resources.
