EXPERIMENT NO. : CARBOXYL GROUP

Aim : To determine the no. of carboxyl group in the given substance. Apparatus : Burette, pipette, conical flask, beaker, stand, etc. Chemical : Given substance, NaOH solution, Phenolphthalein indicator Procedure : PART-I Standardization of given alkali NaOH solution. 0.1 N succinic acid may be prepared by accurately weigh 1.475 gm of the acid and dissolve it in 250 cc of distill water in a measuring flask. Titrate 25 ml of given alkali against above solution using Phenolphthalein as an indicator.Let the burette reading be y ml of 0.1 N succinic acid. PART-II Weigh accurately about 1.5 gms of given substance. Dissolve in distilled water in beaker and transfer the content in 250 c.c measuring flask and dilute to mark with water. Titrate 25 ml of this dilute solution against given NaOH using Phenolphthalein as an indicator. Let burette reading be B ml of NaOH solution. Result : Number of carboxyl group in given substance = _________
