1. Introduction of Hippie Fashion

The hippies fashion is unique and was very popular in the 1960's. It was a time when people dressed to express themselves in different ways. The hippies fashion was embraced by many people. In the 1960's hippies embraced rock music and did lots of protests. The 1960's hippies dressed in jeans as casual attire. It was a time when people felt that any goes and many tried drugs and other things during that time in history. The hippies made a whole lifestyle their own.

The strongest signifiers of hippie fashion included tie-dyed shirts, the fringed or mirrored vest, the headband, the torn and patched jeans, and the peace sign or love bead jewelry. The women wore long floor length dresses and skirts called maxies. Men kept their hair longer. Hippies decorated everything, including painting their bodies.

There is a rich history behind hippie fashion , and its influence has had a lasting impact on the fashion world even making a comeback in some of the clothes of the top fashion designers today.

2.1 The history of Hippie Fashion The 60s were a turning point of fashion. Women were expressing themselves, celebrating their independence and establishing their equality with men. Fashion reflected these attitude shifts. Hippie fashion is about wearing clothes that reflected one s uniqueness and freedom. The styles and trends were influenced by the environment of the day music, the religious and cultural diversity etc. This is mirrored in the wild colors; flamboyant style; and casual, anything-goes fashion vibe. The fashion rule in the '60s was that there were no rules. Anything went as long as it wasn't based on the drab, conservative styles of the early '60s. The only thing they seemed to be able to influence was the miniskirt. This is because many of the hippie fashions were based on traditional designs from India, Nepal, Central America, Bali and Morocco. Flower-power was a key trend of hippie fashion. Earrings, necklaces, anklets and bracelets completed the outfits of even the most minimalist flower child. Accessories with psychedelic colorful patterns and gypsy-styled hoop earrings did wonders for a miniskirt or peasant dress. Though this was the time of less is more, purses were also a big part of the 60s hippie fashion era.

Purses were large and bold. Woven purses had big beads, crocheted purses featured lots of fringe and some purses can reversible.

2.2 60s Hippie Fashion styles The elements that went into the hippy wardrobe were only limited by their psychedelic imaginations. Bellbottoms ruled the day, from striped, to blue jeans to patchwork, to hip huggers, even leather pants were popular. Tops ran the gamut from Nehru shirts, to brightly colored African dashikis and Middle Eastern caftans, to halter tops, tie dyes, and frilly, silky shirts for men. Women wore saris from India and sarongs from Bali and Java. Velvet, leather, batik, denim, Indian cotton and silk were all popular fabrics. Also tie-dyed shirts and paisley prints. Footwear ranged from the basic sandal and Birkenstocks to zippered boots, platforms and bright patent leather shoes. Peasant dresses, long skirts and layering were also very popular. 2.3 The return of Hippie Fashion According to Style.com s spring 2008 trend report, it was the Summer of Love all over again on the runways this spring. The experts observe that masses of fringe and tie-dye are being integrated into the latest styles of top designers such as Balmain, Giorgio Armani, Maurizio Pecoraro, Wunderkind and Veronique Branquinho. Also Flower prints, flowing maxi dresses with billowing sleeves, wide-leg pants, fabrics like lace, silk and chiffon, soft leather and suede, macram detailing and fringes are popular this spring/summer season.

Cavalli is one among many who are feeling the free love with long, natural locks and psychedelic prints. Etro also paid homage to the summer of love with shrunken vests, low-slung belts, and fringed boots that left toes exposed, emulating the barefoot bliss of the bohemian generation. At Missoni, the trend was tweaked for a thoroughly modern feel, with earthy prints appearing on luxurious silks and long layers of necklaces that looked far richer than any traditional hippie beads. Signs of the trend have also been spotted at Pucci, Matthew Williamson, and D&G.

3. Conclusion
The 1960s were a very interesting time period that saw the advent of many new styles and elements of 60s fashion. Hippie fashion styles have been revived today, and can be seen as influences in modern fashions. Bellbottoms, for example, are one element of 60s fashion that has been revived today. We can see that many fashion designers no matter famous not local still use hippie fashion in their collection that means the influence of hippie fashion in 60s and 70s are important nowadays. I think hippie fashion will revive again and again in the future.
