ABSTRACT

The focus of this study was to investigate the relationship between the workplace spirituality and leadership practices who will lead to leadership effectiveness in Royal Malaysian Police in Johor Bahru. The Leadership practices will be focus on Task oriented behaviors, Relation oriented behaviors and change oriented behaviors. A quantitative technique (questionnaires) was used to collect data from 130 police officers in various ranks, across the entire department of Police Johor Bahru Distric Headquaters, namely, Criminal crime department, special branch department, Narcotics department, logistics department, admin department, Traffic department and Internal affairs department. The results of this study indicate that workplace spirituality has an important role to play as an aide to leadership development, in context of their strong relations with the leadership practice or style, as well as leadership effectiveness. The results also confirmed that effective leadership practices could explain significant variance in level of officer individual spirituality against their leadership practices are positively related each other, except for relation oriented behaviors, which is not to be related. These findings are discussed in the light of currently available research literatures and both practical as well as theoretical implications of the study are highlighted. Future qualitative studies are needed to provide deeper insight.
