The innovative character of India s traditional water architecture and relevance today.

The focal point of Indian architecture, like its culture, has always been religious in nature. As India is an old civilised country and is known for its temple architecture mostly, we found an interesting fact that is mostly temples are built on a river side or near the water body. This is because in India water is worshiped, and all the holy works like washing the prangann (the veranda of the temple area), giving a bath to the holy shrines (GOD), also the water is used in the form of charnamrt (the drinkable holy water); therefore the temple is constructed near the river or water body. The Ganga river is worshiped by every Indian therefore from ---------to Banaras there are temples constructed on the river side; for example in haridwar most of the temples are built near the river side, this is because the Hindu myth behind the ganga river. The river ganga is the goddess; although all the rivers in India are worshiped like the goddess but river ganga has a myth with it that she has came from the swarg (heaven) and she took the help of lord shiva to step on the earth so that the earth can handle her weight; she is also known for removing evil works of a person; it is said that after one took a bath in the river he/she get removed of his evil works. One of the temple DAKSHESHWAR MAHADEV TEMPLE is also built near river ganga The Daksheshwar Mahadev temple is situated in

Kankhal, at a distance of around 4 kilometres from the main city of Haridwar. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is connected with a very famous legend. The present temple building was built in 1962 AD, the temple compound consisting of two other temples as well. One temple belongs to the Das Mahavidyas , dedicated to the ten wisdom goddesses or aspects of the divine Mother, depicting the wide spectrum of feminity, from horrifying and frightful goddess to the stunningly beautiful one. Special pujas (worships) are held on Navratris here. Another temple in the compound is dedicated to goddess Ganga, the holy river.
