Mig Welding

y Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, also sometimes called Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a process that was developed for welding aluminium and other non-ferrous metal y MIG welding is an automatic or semi-automatic process in which a wire connected to a source of direct current acts as an electrode to join two pieces of metal as it is continuously passed through a welding gun. y A flow of an inert gas, originally argon, is also passed through the welding gun at the same time as the wire electrode. y This inert gas acts as a shield, keeping airborne contaminants away from the weld zone.

y Corrosion Resistance. y Continuous weld may be produced y Welding cleaning work is less y Welding work can be done without stopping

Weld coatings

Process: -Intense heat at the arc melts the tip of the electrode . -Tiny drops of metal enter the arc stream and are deposited on the parent metal. -As molten metal is deposited, a slag forms over the bead which serves as an insulation against air contaminants during cooling. -After a weld pass is allowed the cool, the oxide layer is removed by a chipping hammer and then cleaned . -Then the coatings are given to reduce the corrosion.
