Andrea Barbarin Helvetica Questions 1.) Name of documentary, author/producer, and year.

. - Helvetica - Director/Producer: Gary Hustwit - 2007 2.) Is it "informational" or "promotional"? support your argument. I think it is informational. In my view it tells the greater story of design in context of society by using Helvetica as a case study. While at times the documentary does seem to have a pro-Helvetica bias, overall it does present Helvetica through the viewpoints of both its proponents and opponents. 3.) Who is the primary audience it is aimed at? It seems to be targeted at people who are broadly interested in design, design history, and the cultural influences of design. 4.) What is the relevance of it to specific areas/topics of our course? This documentary shows how people and society at large use type in every day life. It also demonstrates how culture impacts the proliferation and use of type. Although the vast majority of us will never be professional graphic designers, while we are learning the mechanics of graphic design, it is helpful to put what we are learning into greater context. 5.) According to the film, how does type affect our lives? - It creates order. - It expresses values. 6.) Will you use Helvetica for your future graphic projects? (optional) I am not sure. Generally I am naturally drawn to clean, san serif fonts, so I probably will
