As you read A Raisin in the Sun, practice reading between the lines. As you select quotations for your dialectical journals look for lines that are especially revealing or that possess deeper meanings. Enjoy the play. To really get into it, I suggest reading it out loud with a friend (or maybe even a whole cast!) Youll need to practice your acting skills for some performances youll be doing after the break. Your Dialectical Journal Assignments are as follows:

Act 1 Scene 1 - 6 D.J.s, one on each of the following: The setting (the apartment) Mama (Lena) Ruth Walter Beneatha Travis For the remaining four scenes, you must complete two D.J.s per scene. Look for lines that can be read on multiple levels, especially anything symbolic or thematic.
