FROM THE DESK OF
CO-ORDINATOR

The development of higher education is highly correlated with the overall growth of a society.
Technical change and institutional change are two key components of development. Higher
education has a important role to play in facilitating these changes by helping to integrate
advanced training and research with shifting economic realities. Adequate trained manpower has
better capabilities to adapt to rapid technological and social changes, and thus facilitates
efficient use of resources resulting in higher productivity and economic growth. Against this
backdrop, the Master of Financial Management programme is a humble attempt on the part of the
Faculty of Commerce of the Banaras Hindu University to contribute to manpower development with
ability to achieve excellence.

In this programme students with diverse background are selected through rigorous process of
written and personality test to ensure their aptitude and acceptability in the corporate world. The
selected students undergo a rigorous theoretical teaching and practical training of 6 weeks
duration in any reputed industrial, financial or service sector enterprise which strengthens their
innate capability and give them an edge to compete with the most demanding situations of the
corporate world.

I assure to every esteemed organization that the group of students whose profile being presented
in this brouchure has been well trained for taking up managerial responsibilities. I believe that they,

ABOUT
FACULTY OF COMMERCE
The genesis of the Faculty of Commerce can be traced back to 1940, when under
the initiative of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then Vice-Chancellor, the Department of
Commerce was set up as an adjunct to the Department of Economics. Ten years later,
it became a full-fledged Department and in 1965, it was given the status of Faculty.

In the many years that followed, the Faculty of Commerce grew leaps and bounds
under the stewardship of scholars and academicians like Prof. B. R. Mishra, Dr. J. N.
Dasgupta, Dr. R. L. Agrawal, Prof. S. R. K. Bhandari and Prof. R.A. Singh. The figure head
