Leadership Philosophy Mike Swinson

1.

Build the brand... manage the message...reecting the vision of

the department and organization

2. Spend time on issues that are relevant and benecial to stakeholders and increase its inherent value...or dont work on it. 3. A void of leadership, priorities, and information will be lled with wasted energy, unfullled effort, misdirection, and misinformation. People appreciate, respond to, and will utilize information related to their job and the business

4.Being prepared is usually the most fun part of the experience. 5.Timely decisions need to be made based on best available information,
which sometimes means not having all the information you wish you had. Its called having a sense of urgency and timing. 6. Everything has a prudent nancial view which should be considered.

perspective based on a limited resource

7.Effective communication starts with a face to face conversation.

The need to be casual, and sometimes lengthy, conversations should not be ignored. It is inuenced by body language (listening) and enhanced by surroundings. Concise and understandable summary statements (three bullets or 1/2 page), whether written or oral, are foundational. The more email (especially reply all) and vmail is used, the more likely misunderstandings will occur.

8.Relationships grow when support is shown for leading a balanced life across
professional, personal, spiritual, and community/social dimensions. Being visible insures that inuence and motivation will always outperform power and authority

9.Be on time.

Start on time. Respect other peoples time.

10.Manage up...give your boss alternatives including bad ones, at the right
time, in the right way. Let him know if you need him to take action (if so, when); give advice; or do nothing (for information only)
