ANNEXURE 1 FOR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATION AND CERTIFICATION OF LEVEL II OR III PERSONNEL FOR AUTOMATED

ULTRASONIC TESTING (TOFD/PHASED ARRAY TACHNIQUE) When used in lieu of the radiographic examination requirements of the construction Codes (ASME Section VIII Div 2 para 7.5.5 or Code Case 2235-9), the following requirements shall be applicable for the personnel to be qualified and certified for Automated Ultrasonic Examination of welds: Personnel having prior qualification and certification as UT Level II or III shall only be considered for Automated UT examination. Such personnel shall be given additional training for at least 64 hrs that shall include basic principles of TOFD/Phased Array techniques, use of specific UT equipment, setting and use of associated software analysis of data acquired including flaw evaluation/characterization and interpretation as per applicable Code requirements On completion of training, the personnel shall be given specific and practical examination in the technique using the similar equipment and software to be used. The specific examination shall consist of a minimum of 20 questions based on the Automated UT procedure to be applied. The practical examination shall consist of testing a flawed specimen and at least 10 performance checkpoints selected to demonstrate understanding of test variables and procedural requirements. Training and examination shall be performed by a qualified and certified individual from the equipment manufacture or a qualified and certified UT Level III having documented experience on use of this technique, equipment and associated software. On successful completion of training and examination, the personnel shall be certified as Level II or Level III (Automated UT). Personnel having prior training, experience and qualification with the technique including use of similar equipment and software can be considered for certification provided Company Level III has evaluated and satisfied himself with the requirements of this written practice and documented evidence of such training, experience and qualification are available. Before performing automated UT, such personnel shall be required to participate in the demonstration of the automated UT procedure on the qualification blocks including interpretation of the flaws as per applicable construction Code requirements.
