Introduction of GC University
Government College University (GCU) Faisalabad, is the leading institution in the region renowned for its art, culture, research programs and activities. With strong industry linkage and market oriented programs, it is a rapidly growing university striving for excellence in every field of professional environment.The journey of Government College University, Faisalabad (GCUF), started in 1897 as a Municipal Middle School which was founded in the building of the present Government College for Women, Karkhana Bazaar, Faisalabad. In September 1905, it was upgraded to the level of High School. The Provincial Government took over the management of this institution and in 1916 it was shifted to the present building. In May 1924, it attained the status of Intermediate College and in October 1933, it was upgraded to the degree level. Post graduate disciplines were introduced in 1963. Government of the Punjab declared Government College, Faisalabad as an autonomous institution on July 01, 1990. The college was granted the status of a University on October 23, 2002. The college had a great history of excellence. It produced renowned scholars and professionals and attracted distinguished professors to its ranks. The General (Rtd) Khalid Maqbool, Governor of the Punjab, Dr M. Yaqoob, Ex. Governor of State Bank of Pakistan, renowned scientist Dr. Ishfaq Ahmed, Dr. Habib Ullah Jamal, Vice Chancellor University of Engineering and Technology Texila, Air Marshal (Rtd.) Chhabra of Indian Air Force and renowned poet Noon Meem Rashid are some of the Leading figures it has produced. GC University Faisalabad is situated at Allama Iqbal road not very far from the famous clock tower. The main campus of GC University is spread over an area of 37 acres. The University is developing its new campus 35 kilometres away from the city centre. This mega project will get completed in 3 phases with an approximate cost of each phase Rs. 7000 millions on the land of 402 acres. GC University, Faisalabad is a co-educational institution providing a congenial atmosphere to students to undertake studies and research in their areas of choice. The
Jurisdiction
The main objective of the University is to provide facilities of higher education and research to the whole province of the Punjab. The University fulfills three functions: teaching, affiliation and examination. The University has one affiliated college and two constituent colleges.
Administration
The University Syndicate is the supreme governing and legislative body regarding academic matters and also acts as an executive body of the University. The Academic Council is the main academic body of the University. The Governor of the Punjab is the Chancellor of the University whereas Minister for Education, Government of the Punjab is the Pro-Chancellor of the University. The Principal Executive and Academic Officer of the University is the Vice-Chancellor, who is assisted by the Deans of the Faculties, Directors, Chairpersons of the Departments and the Principals of the constituent / affiliated colleges. The main officers of the University who at present assist the Vice Chancellor in the administrative affairs are the Registrar, the Treasurer/Director Finance, the Controller of Examinations, the Director Administrative Services, the Director Projects, the Director Procurement & Inventory Control and the Chief Security Officer.
Faisalabad district has made rapid strides in the field of industry after independence. It is now called the Manchester of Asia for its extensive development of textile industry. Roughly, there are 512 large Industrial units, out of which 328 are textile units, 92 engineering units and 92 chemicals and food processing units. There are also some 12,000 house-hold industries, which include some 60,000 power loom factories.

Achievements
Semester System University has adopted Semester system in all disciplines, being an intensive system of delivery and assessment with more scope for the students to choose the options of their own choice. It is a student friendly and flexible system aimed at gradual bolstering of all the facets of students academic growth. Faculty Growth After getting the status of university, GC University, Faisalabad is continuously endeavoring for skilled and qualified faculty. The faculty comprises of 256 qualified members having 50 PhD and 31 M.Phil degree holders. Hopefully, more PhDs will be inducted in the near future as per requirement of HEC B.A/BS (Hons) Programs University initiated the four years degree programs in 2005 and is promoting this facility in more disciplines. Enrollment The enrollment of the students at graduate and postgraduate level has increased substantially since the establishment of the university. Female Enrollment The number of female students has substantially increased after the establishment of the university. More then 2500 female students are now on university rolls. Digital Library The importance of dissemination of knowledge and keeping at par with up-to-date information can never be underestimated. In this fast-paced, interconnected world of global village one cannot afford to remain isolated. HEC Appreciation and Recognition HEC inspection team visited the university in April 2006 and registered satisfaction on the progress of the university. According to its report, with present pace of development GCUF is likely to become a good seat of learning in near future.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
BA/BS (Honors) (Four Years Bachelors Degree Program) GC University, Faisalabad offers quality education thats why it has initiated four years (Honors) Bachelors degree program in various disciplines as per requirements of HEC and to achieve the international education standard. The main purpose of this program is to provide students the well-rounded education opportunities with expertise in their discipline of choice. System and Structure It is four years bachelor degree program and there are two semesters, i.e. winter and spring, of 18 weeks duration, in an academic year. The students complete the required course work in 8 semesters. They have the option of cut off point after completing two years of their bachelors program but they will be awarded a Bachelor Pass Degree only. Students would have the facility of readmission in his/her 4 years bachelor program but he/she has to apply within the prescribed period for re-admission, otherwise he/she will lose the right of re-admission. There is mid Semester tests after eight weeks from the start of teaching of a Semester and is conducted by the relevant Department. There is also a summer session of 8 to 10 weeks duration as a part of an academic year and will be optional. Students who wish to improve D, E and F grade (s) may enroll in this session in the courses offered.

Admission Policy A candidate who is seeking admission in 4 years (Honors) program must have passed the Intermediate examination from a recognized institution securing at least 45% marks in the academic courses prescribed. The admission will be made on the basis of open merit. Admission on quota will also be made according to the merit of the specific category. A subject based GRE test is conducted by the relevant departments. Written/entry test will be of 100 marks (60% Merit will be calculated by adding the marks subject + 40% analytical type) obtained in entry/written test + marks obtained in F.A / F.Sc Exam. Qualifying Marks = 50% The interview of the candidate who qualifies the test will also be conducted. Scholarships
There are many types of scholarships that students can avail like Merit Scholarships by the Government, Killa Gift, Quaid-e-Azam, Mora, Hafiz-e-Quran, District Council, Chief Minister, Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal and University Position Holders. The deserving students will also be able to get stipends from Provincial Zakat Fund. Interested students should get an eligibility proof from the elected representative of the area and submit the application to the Zakat and Usher Committee Officer after getting it attested by the Deputy Registrar (FAO) Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, is also providing Need Based Scholarships like USAID for meritorious and needy students of Pharmacy and Bioinformatics and Japanese Need Based Scholarships to the students of Basic Sciences and Social Sciences at Graduate level.
Fee Concession
The applications for fee concession have to be submitted on the prescribed forms after admission in the University and these forms can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office. Hostel Facilities
The University at present has two hostels for boys and four hostels for girls. Owing to inadequate resources 6 hostels were established in private buildings rented outside the University premises. For the proper administration, functioning and establishment of new hostels, Hall Council has been established. In all the hostels, the residents are provided with the necessary facilities. Internet facility is also provided in these hostels. The Mess is run by the students. The seats of hostel are filled on merit. The students desirous of staying in the hostels are advised to submit their applications to the office of the wardens of the hostels through the Director/Chairperson/Incharge of the respective Department.
Parking Facilities
The University provides parking facilities to the students and staff. The students who wish to benefit from the parking facility for their cars/motor bikes and cycles may to contact In-charge security for parking arrangements.

Government of the Punjab has allotted approximately 400 acres of land to the university for New Campus which is about 35 Kilometer away from city. The capital cost for development of infrastructure is Rs. 3351.63 million. This mega project will get completed in 3 phases.

During my employment I learned many things like payment and receipt process of university. I learned how to write cash book and how to reconcile cash book balance with Bank balance. I gained much knowledge about financial matters of university. It is a great experience for me which can be used in future.
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
I always face the problem of shortage of facilities as compare to the burden of the work. This was big problem and I always tried to complete my work in time but sometime I couldnt do so due to work load and lack of facilities.
