WVCSOs Grades K-2 Standard 1: Students will be able to comprehend and demonstrate concepts related to wellness promotion and disease and prevention that apply to daily living experiences. (K.05) Standard 4: Students will name ways that cultural, media, and other factors influence decisions in daily living experiences. (K.02, 2.06, 2.09) Standard 5: Students will: demonstrate motor skills and movement forms that enhance physical development that apply to daily living experiences. (K.02, 1.02, 2.02, 2.03, 2.06) Standard 6: Students will apply concepts and principles of human movement to the development of motor skills and learning of new skills that apply to daily living experiences. (1.02) Objectives 1. During class, the students will be following a pattern on a sequence card while working with other students and 70% of the students will be able to follow the correct sequence pattern. (K-1) 2. During class, the students will perform various activities while utilizing exercise bands and will using the proper form 70% of the time. 3. During class, the students will work with different partners after working with each partner the students will praise or thank their partner 100% of the time. (2) 4. Teaching Methods & Learning Activities a. Fitness Activity 1. Aerobic Dance While utilizing music, the students will perform various movements (i.e., marching, toe touches, running in place, curling) to the following song: -Ghostbusters 2. Exercise Bands Students will perform various exercises utilizing exercise bands: -Bicep Curls -Hip Abductors -Leg Extensions -Lying on side leg lifts Students will perform various exercises utilizing exercise bands to the following song: -Days of the Week (K-1) -The Addams Family (2) b. Lesson Focus 1. Explain heart rate -The heart rate represents how fast the heart pumps blood (which carries oxygen) through the body. As the body requires more oxygen to be transported to the muscles, the heart beats faster and the person breathes harder. -Students will feel for their heart rate K: will put both hands on chest to feel for their heart rate 1-2: will check their heart rate at their carotid artery 2. Partner Fitness Fun (2nd grade only) -Students will work in partners and perform various fitness stations with a partner for one minute. After the minute is up the students will take their heart rates. Then each partner will rotate in a different direction (one clockwise and one counterclockwise). At the next station the students will partner-up with one person at that station and perform the task at that station and continue in this pattern. After performing each station they are encouraged to thank their partner; tell them good job; and either shake their hand, give them a high five, or etc. This will encourage social skills and encourage the students to work with other students that they would usually not partner with. -Stations include: 1. Dribble a Ball 2. Jump Rope 3. Partner Ball Exchange 4. Power Walk w/Weights 5. Hula-hooping

6. Partner Squat 7. Shooting Baskets 8. Speed Bowling 9. Partner Passing 10. Wall Sits 11. Balloon Hit 12. Power Jumps 13. Tire Hurdles & Hula-Hoops -Group activities include: 1. Jumping Jacks 2. Push-ups 3. Squat Kicks 4. Punch, Punch, Kick, Kick 3. Fitness Scavenger Hunt (K-1) -In groups of 2-3, each group with be assigned to a hula-hoop. -Inside the hula-hoop will be a Color Sequence Card, a Health Benefit Checklist, and a plain Color Sequence Card -Throughout the gym there will be cones placed with a crayon and a Health Benefit Card underneath it. -The students will try to find the color crayons that match their Color Sequence Card in order. -When they find the crayon, they will perform 10 reps of the activity on the card and color in one square on their plain Color Sequence Card. -They will then return to their hoop and see what the next color is that they need to find, and then repeat the steps until all of their Color Sequence Card is colored in. VIII. Modifications Modifications will be assessed after the first day of use. Assessment The students (K-1) will be coloring in Color Sequence Cards.
