THEE WORD FOR THE WEEK

The Treasure Entrusted 2 Timothy 2:1-13 March 26-30, 2012 Monday Read 2 Timothy 2:1-2 Paul calls Timothy his son (2:1) because of the close mentoring relationship they shared through being in ministry together (see 1 Cor 4:17, 1 Tim 1:2, 18). Why would Paul ask Timothy to entrust what hes learned to other reliable people (2:2)? Is there someone that you are mentoring right now? If not, spend some in prayer asking God to bring to mind someone to whom you can mentor. Tuesday Read 2 Timothy 2:3-6 Paul lists three analogies to show the qualities of a strong spiritual life. What are these three analogies? In what ways do Christians compare to these three analogies? Do these qualities reflect your own lifestyle? Why or why not? Wednesday Read 2 Timothy 2:7-9 Paul was going through an extremely difficult time (being imprisoned even) for the sake of advancing the Gospel. What was the reason why Paul did not loose heart during this difficult time (2:8)? What does Paul mean when he says but Gods word is not chained? Thursday Read 2 Timothy 2:10 Why should we patiently endure the troubles we encounter in life? In what way will God reward those who accept suffering? In what way does your eternal hope help you to persevere through hard times? Read Romans 8:31-39. What other insights to 2 Timothy 2:10 does Romans 8:31-39 bring? Friday Read 2 Timothy 2:11-13 What hope does Scripture offer to people who are struggling to remain faithful to God? What insights are brought to 2 Timothy 2:11 when we read it with Romans 6:4-8? As faithful as Jesus is to save those who believe in Him (John 3:16), He is equally faithful to judge those who do not (John 3:18). To act any other way would be inconsistent with His holy, unchangeable nature (see Heb. 10:23). From the previous statement, how does this increase our sense of urgency about sharing with people the hope weve found in Jesus?
