ASSIGNMENT 6

POWER SYSTEM-II, EE 603

Course coordinator: Dr. S. Sheel 6.1. A 10 MVA, 50 Hz generator with neutral solidly earthed has +ve,-ve and zero sequence reactance as 30%, 10% and 5% respectively. It is connected to a line formed with three conductors of 1cm diameter in equilateral spacing of 5mside. Generator is excited to give 30KV on open circuit. Find line current under L-L fault at 20kms away. Neglect line resistance and capacitances. 6.2. A L-G fault occurs in a 3 conductor cable supplied from a 10 MVA, 3-phase alternator with neutral earthed. The sequence impedance for the alternator are (0.5 + j*4.7) , (0.2 + j*0.6) and j*0.43 per phase. The corresponding lines to neutral impedances of cable upto fault position are (0.36 +j*0.25) ,(0.36+j*0.25),(2.9+J*0.95).Find (a)Fault current (b)Sequence currents in each line (c)Voltage of unfaulted lines at the fault point. The generator no load output is 6.6 KV. 6.3.Two 11 KV,50MVA,3-phase alternators are connected in parallel and supply a sub-station feeder having impedance of(0.4+j*0.7) to +ve and ve sequence currents and (0.7+j*0.3) to zero-sequence currents. Alternators +ve ,_ve ,zero sequence impedances are 0.6,0.4,0.2 each. Both machines have neutrals earthed through reactances of 0.2.Calculate the fault current in each line and potential of alternator neutral for D-L-G fault at the substation. 6.4. An 11KV alternator is connected to 11/66KV transformer feeding 66/11/3.3KV,3 wdg transformer via a feeder of very low impedance as shown. Calculate the fault current for S-L-G fault on a terminal of 11 KV winding of transformer. 3-W Xer

For generator: X1=j*0.1 pu=X2, X0=J*0.02pu on 10 MVA base;Zn=1 For 11/66 KV transformer: X1=X2=X0=j*0.1 pu on 10MVA base. For a 3-winding transformer: 66KV winding in 3.3KV winding delta connected. ;11 KV winding , earthed through 1 resistance,

Equivalent star to represent transformer has X1=X2=X0=j*0.05 pu; 11KV winding has X1=X2=X0=j*0.02 Pu, 3.3KV winding has has X1=X2=X0=j*0.05 pu all on a 10MVA base.
