Emily Meyer Merrill Middle School 7th Grade Language Arts Wednesday Title: Outsiders Jeopardy!

Description/Purpose: We have some differentiation going on this morning. Some of my students still need to finish their final reflections in the computer lab. For those of my students that are done, we are going to review/wrap up the book with this game. Instruction Time: 30 minutes Iowa Standards: SL.7.1. Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in
groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts, and issues, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly. Come to discussions prepared, having read or researched material under study; explicitly draw on that preparation by referring to evidence on the topic, text, or issue to probe and reflect on ideas under discussion.

Resources: Powerpoint, Computer, The Outsiders book Learning Objectives: Students will work collaboratively to answer questions given during Jeopardy. Procedures: 1. Introduce the activity. 2. Have students that need to complete their assignment go to the library with Mrs. Holwell. 3. Have remainder of class clear off their desks. 4. Split teams up/arrange the desks. 5. Explain the rules: a. Every team must have a representative. Everyone on the team must go once. b. If the team that answers first misses the question, the other team may choose. c. If both teams miss the question, there will be a 30 second discussion time. The answer is worth half of the points. 6. (As students trickle in from completing their work, they will be assigned to a team).
