Al explorar las sensibilidades poticas y el lenguaje compartidos por todos los animales, con mi trabajo busco redescubrir esa tierra comn que una vez existi cuando las personas vivan en armona con los animales. Las imgenes muestran un mundo que no tiene ni principio ni fin, ni un aqu ni un all, ni pasado ni presente.
Ashes and Snow de Gregory Colbert es un proyecto en curso que entrelaza trabajos fotogrficos, pelculas de 35mm, instalaciones artsticas y una novela presentada en cartas. Con una profunda paciencia y un firme compromiso con la naturaleza expresiva y artstica de los animales, ha capturado de forma extraordinaria, improvisadas interacciones entre los seres humanos y los animales. El ttulo Ashes and Snow hace referencia al componente literario de la exposicin; una historia ficticia sobre un hombre que, durante el transcurso de un viaje de un ao, escribe 365 cartas a su mujer. El origen del ttulo se revela en la carta del da 365. Las fotografas de Colbert y la pelcula de una hora hacen referencia en trminos generales a los encuentros y experiencias descritos en las cartas. Colbert, que define a los animales como obras maestra vivas de la naturaleza, decidi filmar a los animales en su hbitat natural en un esfuerzo por ser fiel a la voz de cada animal. La pelcula se puede ver como una obra de arte, as como un estudio de campo potico. La exposicin Ashes and Snow incluye ms de 50 obras de arte fotogrficas a gran escala, una pelcula de una hora y dos cortometrajes estilo haiku. Ninguna de las imgenes se ha manipulado de forma digital para parecer un collage o est superpuesta. Las imgenes registran lo que el artista vio a travs del objetivo de su cmara. Aun cuando Colbert utiliza cmaras con pelcula y fotogramas, las imgenes no son fotogramas de la pelcula. Los animales presentados en las fotografas y las pelculas son animales salvajes y tambin aquellos que ya se han habituado al contacto humano. Los trabajos fotogrficos combinan los tonos ocre oscuro y sepia en un proceso encastico sobre papel japons hecho a mano. Las obras de arte, de aproximadamente dos metros por tres y medio, se montan sin ningn texto explicativo para as fomentar una interaccin abierta con las imgenes. //

By exploring the language and poetic sensibilities shared by all animals, I am working towards rediscovering the common ground that once existed when people lived in harmony with animals. The images show a world that has no beginning and no end, no one here or there, past or present.

Ashes and Snow by Gregory Colbert is an ongoing project that weaves together photographic works, 35mm films, art installations and a novel in letters. With profound patience and an unwavering commitment to the expressive and artistic nature of animals, has captured extraordinary, improvised interactions between humans and animals. The title Ashes and Snow refers to the literary component of the exhibition, a fictional story about a man who, during the course of a journey than a year, wrote 365 letters to his wife. The origin of the title is revealed in the letter of the day 365. Colberts photographs and one-hour film loosely reference the travelers encounters and experiences described in the letters. Colbert, who calls animals as living masterpieces of nature, chose to film animals in their natural habitat in an effort to be faithful to the voice of every animal. The film can be viewed as a work of art as well as a poetic field study. The Ashes and Snow exhibition includes more than 50 works of large-scale photographic art, a one-hour film and two short films like haiku. None of the images have been digitally manipulated to look like a collage or is superimposed. The pictures record what the artist himself saw through the lens of his camera. While Colbert uses both still and movie cameras, frames, images are not stills from the film. Animals that are presented in photographs and movies are wild animals and also those that have already been accustomed to human contact. The works combine photography and sepia tones in dark ocher encaustic process on handmade Japanese paper. Works of art, about two meters by three and a half, are mounted without explanatory text so as to encourage open interaction with the images.
