Please note: Grey holes represent holes which may be closed for ease, but do not affect the tone played.
Black holes must be covered to get the tone. Several maqamat are easy to play on a D ney, such as
Bayati on D, Saba on D, Hijaz on D, Rast on C, Nakriz on C. Notes with half holes such as Ab, and
E & B natural, are hard to get on this ney. See www.maqamworld.com and www.turath.org for more
on maqamat & scales. The symbol b represents a half-flat, or quarter tone, a particularly Oriental
sound not available on most Western instruments. Bb and Eb are easy on the D ney.
